I was so pleased with the response about Billie for a girl but this one is a bit more 'unusual'

Link

I know you can lengthen it to be Lincoln but I don't like that so it would just be Link.

DH is a huge Zelda fan Grin

" Link" . Personally , I wouldn't . But your choice. Which he will have to live with.

Blondielongie · 27/08/2017 18:07

I immediately think of Zelda. And I love that game so for that reason I like it :)

DragonsandDungeons · 27/08/2017 18:09

I like it but I like Zelda lol

Viviennemary · 27/08/2017 18:12

It's not the worst name I've heard on here. But tbh it's pretty dire.

EllaNB · 27/08/2017 18:52

It's a good job I have thick skin, we called one of our little 3 week old boy twins Lincoln with a view to shortening it to Linc.

FYI everyone who we told this name to when I was pregnant told me they hated it! Even I didn't really like it, but we were having two boys and my DH was set on the name link and we agreed we both got to choose a name each.

Now he is ear I think Link is the perfect name, it suits him so much xx

foodiefil · 27/08/2017 18:57

I don't like it but each to their own!

People get used to names don't they...

HowzatCat · 27/08/2017 18:59

Awful. Sorry. Lincoln is fine but people will think it's a typo and not a name.

HingleMcCringleberry · 27/08/2017 19:17

Link is a phenomenal name. I've known two Lincolns, both went by Linc, so might as well just cut to the chase and call your son Link. And the associations with the name are great - he's stoical and courageous. Why wouldn't you want your son named after such a badass?

DragonsandDungeons · 27/08/2017 19:46

I don't get how anyone can think it's "not a name". Names are just words, if someone called it him it's his name surely?

Gameofgnomes · 27/08/2017 20:13

Congratulations Ella Flowers
It's definitely a good job you have thick skin Grin I knew it would get divided views here as it is 'out there' but that's one reason I liked it.

Hingle thank you so much. You may have restored my positivity in the name.

My first thought was the Matrix.

Choosing names is a nightmare - if you like it go for it, but maybe offer a more conventional middle name so he has a choice?

Liadain · 27/08/2017 22:46

Oh god no OP.

Use it as a middle name if you must. Or just have Zelda as a girls baby name option, I think that's easier to pull off Grin

Buntysoven · 27/08/2017 22:56

Er...the missing link? Confused

InvisibleCities · 27/08/2017 23:05

Lots of people use a more formal name but always intend to shorten it to what they prefer - for instance I've never met an Edith who actually went by Edith, they all seem to be known as Edie, but they do have that more formal name to fall back on if they ever want to.

Is there any other longer name that could be shortened to Link? Just so that he has a "get out clause" later on?

Kazzawazza69 · 27/08/2017 23:06

I actually kinda like it. Not a name I would choose for my own child but if I met one I would think it was a cool name.

C0untDucku1a · 27/08/2017 23:16

Linkovich?

FizzyGreenWater · 27/08/2017 23:18

LINK! As in a single sausage?! No you can't possibly!

Pigs in Space... starring LINK HOGTHROB and DR STRANGEPORK

😂😂😂😂😂😂

FizzyGreenWater · 27/08/2017 23:18

I haven't thought of that for years 😁

Ontopofthesunset · 27/08/2017 23:20

Why? I mean, I realise you could fairly say why not, but then why not Hyphen? Or Back? Or Conjunction? Or Picket? Or Semi-Colon?

Of course any word can be a name, but if you're picking a word at random it might as well have positive or attractive associations. I don't much like Ocean as a name, but I understand why someone might choose it. Link is baffling to me.

BunnyNeeded · 27/08/2017 23:27

You may not like Lincoln, but you can still use it if you like Link. We used a name for one of ours that we only love the nickname of, but still christened the full name.

BunnyNeeded · 27/08/2017 23:28

I don't like the name, but I do like the sound of it, if that makes sense.

Gameofgnomes · 27/08/2017 23:44

On top of to us it's not as random as that. There are a couple of references where we have heard it.

Although Hyphen..... GrinGrin

I love Lincoln, was briefly on our shortlist for DS2 but DS1 is a Carter so we realized we'd look like US presidential nuts so vetoed.

It's a good name though!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/08/2017 02:42

My neighbour has a Lincoln who gets shortened to Lynx, which I think is quite cool. But Link on its own I think opens up a ŕeady range of insults, like missing link, weakest link.

SuperBeagle · 28/08/2017 06:25

Reminds me of Link from Good Mythical Morning.

I prefer Rhett
