Marianne or Clemency

I think I can guess which will win but...

Clemency or Marianne

Be as harsh as you like. TIA

No harshness here. I love them both. Good choices, OP.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/08/2017 12:23

Not Clemency. Do you know what clemency means?. It means "disposition to be merciful and especially to moderate the severity of punishment due".

Marianne sounds better.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/08/2017 12:23

Clemency. (Lemmie would be a fab nn.)

HelloFreedom · 20/08/2017 12:25

Yep. Well aware of the meaning. Female derivative of Clement.

Marianne is lovely.

Clemency - no. It makes me think about someone being pardoned while on death row, a last minute stay of execution - "the judge showed clemency".

early30smum · 20/08/2017 12:29

I like both although don't think I could just past the meaning of Clemency... I like Marianne but would prefer Marianna or Marina as an alternative! I really like Clementine too.

flissfloss65 · 20/08/2017 12:30

Marianne is lovely. Whenever I hear the name I think of Leonard Cohen's song of that name. A sad song but great name.

HelloFreedom · 20/08/2017 12:31

Clementine is out for reasons annoying and surname related. It was my favourite and still is actually. But it's out. Clemency seems a good second option.

What about Clemmie?

HelloFreedom · 20/08/2017 12:37

Clemmie is cute and would probably be NN but it's not right for a full name for us.

Hotpinkangel19 · 20/08/2017 12:37

Clemency is not nice... sorry. Marianne is so much better.

HelloFreedom · 20/08/2017 12:38

No need for anyone to be sorry. I'm looking for brutal honesty.

Marianne. I like Clemmy but Clemency makes me think of Death Row.

Fridgedooropen · 20/08/2017 12:43

The word 'clemency' reminds me of this Bill Bailey song. Starts just before 2 minutes in

Migraleve · 20/08/2017 12:50

Marianne.

Definitely not clemency

chevrechevre · 20/08/2017 12:54

What about Clemence/Clémence à la Clémence Poesy?

OpheliaHamlet · 20/08/2017 12:59

Marianne is very pretty.
Sorry, but I hate Clemency. And 'Clemmy' as a nickname or otherwise makes me think of 'clammy', as in someone being nervous and having clammy hands

ShanghaiDiva · 20/08/2017 13:00

Marianne - lovely name.

Sandsnake · 20/08/2017 13:02

Absolutely not Clemency. I really dislike 'virtue' names, makes people sound like 17th century Puritans. Also, as PPs say - clemency reminds me of death row / murder trials etc.

itssquidstella · 20/08/2017 13:03

Clemency is beautiful. I don't like Marianne at all, sorry.

Dina1234 · 20/08/2017 13:07

Not keen on either. Have you considered Celmence or Clementine? I've always preferred Miriam to Marianne.

HelloFreedom · 20/08/2017 13:32

Clemence is nice but to my ear it sounds a little masculine.

Clementine we cant have because of a rhyming syllable within our surname.

I was just wracking my brain to remember the actress's name but a PP put me out of my misery. Clémence! Beautiful.

Marianne is lovely also.

purplecorkheart · 20/08/2017 13:34

Clemency makes me think of death row. Marianne is a nice name but then I have family and friends with that name.

squoosh · 20/08/2017 13:35

Clemency is a bit worthy.

Marianne because of the Leonard Cohen song.
