What are your thoughts on Amabel?

OP posts:

GinIsIn · 13/08/2017 20:48

I think there's a typo in your post. Did you mean Mabel, or Annabel?

MelvinThePenguin · 13/08/2017 20:49

I came to say what Fenella said. Sorry OP.

HeyRoly · 13/08/2017 20:50

It looks like Annabel with the double "n" squashed together to make a "m".

IHeartKingThistle · 13/08/2017 20:50

I know an Ama - it's a Ghanaian name. Not sure I've heard Amabel and it would probably get misheard for Annabel all the time. Love Annabel, for the record!

Figgygal · 13/08/2017 20:51

Poor thing will spend her life explaining that that is her name and not a typo

Assuming it is a girls name

Orangebird69 · 13/08/2017 20:51

Looks like a spelling mistake. If it's not, just don't.

WallisFrizz · 13/08/2017 20:52

She (and you) will spend a life time correcting/explaining it. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

How will you shorten it, which is inevitable? Will she be Ama?

MsPassepartout · 13/08/2017 20:56

My initial assumption was that it was a typo for Annabel.

Amabel looks pretty enough, but I suspect it'll be very easily mistaken for Annabel.

BroomstickOfLove · 13/08/2017 21:01

I like it. It's sweet and old-fashioned, but it looks s though most people haven't heard of it.

RiverTam · 13/08/2017 21:03

I've known an Amabel. I don't really like it, to be honest.

Maybebaby2 · 13/08/2017 21:13

In Liverpool the thicker accent pronounces I'm like 'Am', and bell is a slang shortening of bellend. So here this name could be pronounced like "Am a bel" (I'm a bell). Not keen on it for that reason, but it depends on where you live and how you would pronounce it.

EssentialHummus · 13/08/2017 21:14

What others have said.

HereBeFuckery · 13/08/2017 21:15

Is it inspired by Big Little Lies? I think there were some raised eyebrows on that programme when that child was introduced...

Theimpossiblegirl · 13/08/2017 21:16

Everyone got it wrong on BLL so I can see it being a hard-work name to be lumbered with tbh.

FlaviaAlbia · 13/08/2017 21:17

It's quite an old name isn't it? I'd say it's probably fallen out of use to such an extent that it might be annoying to have to correct people but I like the name itself.

LadyWithLapdog · 13/08/2017 21:17

I know of an Amabel, about 12 now. Ive heard it more since.

sparechange · 13/08/2017 21:18

It sounds like a toddler trying to say 'Annabel'

Hotdognoketchup · 13/08/2017 21:18

I decided it probably wasn't a spelling mistake but I think your dd may get rather fed up having to spell her name out in the future.

Hotdognoketchup · 13/08/2017 21:21

Maybe a middle name if you really like it?

early30smum · 13/08/2017 21:25

I don't like it, sorry OP. Everyone will think it's a typo for Annabel. Mabel is cute though?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/08/2017 21:43

Am a bel. I hope your last name isn't End.Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/08/2017 21:43

Mabel is gorgeous

Chaffinch4 · 13/08/2017 21:55

I have heard of it! I think it's sweet, but I suspect there would be quite a lot of name spelling / explaining. But that's never bothered me, so if you like it, use it! Nice shortening possibilities too Amey, Belle.

SuperBeagle · 13/08/2017 21:56

People will always think her name is Annabel, especially when they see it written down.

Annabel, Arabella, Anna etc. are all derived from the same name Amabel is, so you'd be better off going with one of the better known variants.

mummytwoh · 13/08/2017 22:08

Im not keen I'm afraid, even though it appears not to be to me it sounds like a made up name sorry.

I absolutely adore Mabel and Annabel though
