Levi or Matthew?

Help! I'm being induced today and my husband and I are having second thoughts about our chosen baby name! We want the second name to be Grant, but have returned to feeling undecided between a first name of Levi or Matthew. We generally like classic names; We think Levi sounds better when paired with Grant and is a cute name for a kid- but appropriate for adult man? Do you think it is too hipster/on trend? On the other hand we love the versatility of Matthew (matty, matt etc) but know that it is very common (maybe less so for babies) and we think "Matthew Grant" doesn't sound as good together. What would you pick?!

Matthew.

Don't like Levi at all.

Topseyt · 09/08/2017 02:52

Matthew. Levi is a pair of jeans.

QuestionableMouse · 09/08/2017 02:52

Matthew.

Levi is horrible, makes me think of overpriced jeans and I'd a name I frequently hear screeched as the kid is up to no good.

Sophronia · 09/08/2017 03:31

Matthew

Icewindfire98 · 09/08/2017 03:35

Levi makes me think of the man that murdered Millie dowler. It's horrible and also a bit chavvy.
Please go with Matthew

Another vote for Matthew, it's a classic. Hope all goes well for you today!

Matthew
Strong classic name. Really not very common amongst children these days, but has the advantage of familiarity too.

AliciaMayEmory · 09/08/2017 07:41

Matthew.

Matthew grant is lovely!

Matthew. Definitely. Matthew Grant sounds great. Strong & classy.

amimadtoconsiderthis2017 · 09/08/2017 07:49

Matthew. Without a doubt.

emmyrose2000 · 09/08/2017 07:50

Matthew.
Levi is a brand of jeans. It's also the name of a corgi dog I knew once. Plus it's just plain awful as a person's name.

beela · 09/08/2017 07:53

Matthew, definitely.

Levi makes me think of Levi Roots, who is quite annoying.

Good luck with the induction!

ifigoup · 09/08/2017 07:53

You probably already know this, but since you haven't mentioned it, did you know that, in the Bible, Matthew and Levi are the same person? He's a tax collector who changes his name after deciding to follow Jesus.

headinhands · 09/08/2017 07:57

Matthew. Lovely name. Never known an unkind Matthew.

My DS has Levi as a middle name and I think it's lovely. I know lots of Matthews, none of them are particularly nice people but I've only met one Levi, he was 82 when DS was born. The loveliest, kindest, most genuine man with a Santa beard and twinkly eyes.

Now 21 DS is just like his namesake minus the beard.

I've never screeched his name and as for the 'chavvy' comment, that says more about the pp than the it does about the name.

UnbornMortificado · 09/08/2017 08:17

Matthew is the loveliest name ever, I'm possibly biased Wink mines a month old.

Good luck today Flowers

grumpymummy72 · 09/08/2017 08:45

Definitely Matthew (like pp I'm biased) as much more flexible. Good luck.

ShaneBitchy · 09/08/2017 08:48

I prefer Levi, although the only one I know is female.

Newdad19 · 09/08/2017 08:53
