Do you like it, do you think it's dated and do you know any? Thanks. I love the meaning Star which is why I like it!

Odd coincidence, Radio4 programme 'How do you raise Happy optimistic children?'
Stella Duffy is one of the panel, introduced as the founder of Fun Palaces (Community lead celebrations). Go Stella!

lazycrazyhazy · 24/07/2017 21:50

I think it's due a revival. I would not think of the lager at all. To give her a choice, as PPs say, maybe call her Estella as in Great Expectations then she can choose.

firsttimemum15 · 24/07/2017 21:54

Love it

Bananacustardyum · 24/07/2017 22:05

I worked with a Stella for 8 years, she became a dear friend. She is honest, loyal and hilarious so I love the name.

Guccibelt · 24/07/2017 22:11

Quite like it. Better than Violet, Ivy etc always featured on here.

Lemondrop99 · 25/07/2017 00:07

I have a strong irrational dislike of Stella (also hate Estelle etc). But it's just personal preference. There's nothing wrong with the name and I couldn't really explain why I dislike it so much

llangennith · 25/07/2017 00:12

Dated. But I quite like it.

Nongoddess · 25/07/2017 00:14

Beeziekn33ze I love Stella Duffy's writing too! I think it's a brilliant name. Very 18th century. Elegant. If only I hadn't had all boys....

Xeneth88 · 25/07/2017 00:26

Only if she goes out with her mate Sheila

Goldenbear · 25/07/2017 00:36

Yes, I like it, it was on my list for DD. I have a friend who is named Stella and is from a very expensive part of London and went to one of the best, highly selective schools in the country so I definitely don't associate the name with cheap lager!

Buntysoven · 25/07/2017 00:38

Makes me think of Turkish Delight. Don't know why. Guess I'm a weirdo.

Goldenbear · 25/07/2017 00:41

Top on my list though was Petranella as I like Petra for short. The problem with both names was the alliteration with the surname as it's a Mck..

chowmeinchick · 25/07/2017 07:18

@Xeneth88 😂

smeerf · 25/07/2017 07:23

I love it and always wanted to call my daughter Stella. My partner has vetoed it as it reminds him of an ex (with a different name). Sigh.

EveMoneypenny · 25/07/2017 08:23

Love it - one of my absolute favourites. Can't use it though, as it sounds odd with our surname and I've only had boys so far anyway!

EyeDrops · 25/07/2017 09:31

I think it's really pretty. It's reminded me of a family connection I'd forgotten.

Also, those thinking it would remind them of x,y,z... I think that's very different once the name is attached to an actual baby/person, because it's their name and them rather than hypothetical. It's not like you'd always think "oh, that sounds like the beer!" - it would just become their name!

Choccyhobnob · 25/07/2017 10:13

I wish I was cultured enough to have heard of the poem or the jazz song (or even seen a streetcar named desire!) but alas I have never heard of either of them Sad

Coey2016 · 25/07/2017 10:26

I really love it

TealStar · 25/07/2017 10:32

Have always loved it. Not sure why we never chose it actually. I love names that end in a because they are usually very stron sounding. I like the ⭐️ meaning too.

flickerty · 25/07/2017 10:51

I like Stella. I also like Astra, Seren and Lyra which are all a bit starry 😊

cuirderussie · 25/07/2017 11:03

Flickerty, in Germany, Astra is a well-known beer, what is it about stars and beer? Smile

chowmeinchick · 25/07/2017 11:45

Astra is a car?

cuirderussie · 25/07/2017 11:52

Yes and also a beer.

I like it very much As to lager, well some people will associate it with that, as, on a recent 'Violet' thread, people were saying it sounds like 'violent'.

Mum2OneTeen · 25/07/2017 12:03

It's a lovely name.
