Do you like it, do you think it's dated and do you know any? Thanks. I love the meaning Star which is why I like it!

I like it!

Cantseethewoods · 24/07/2017 18:27

I reckon less than 5% of people under 25 yrs old have seen Streetcar called Desire so I wouldn't worry about that- feel more sorry for the kids getting called khaleesi

Anyway, I think it's classic and feminine without being cutesy, plus lots of good 'real life' Stella's. I'm a fan.

chowmeinchick · 24/07/2017 18:30

I think it's an okay name. It does remind me of alcohol when I say it tho. I only know one, who's about 10.

Glumglowworm · 24/07/2017 19:26

I only know one Stella who is middle aged, but I never think of the beer when I see her

I love Estella but not a fan of Estelle.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/07/2017 19:34

Until about ten years' ago I would have put it in the nice-but-been-and-gone category, then it began to pop up in baby names. Nowadays to me it seems fresh and up to date.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 24/07/2017 19:37

Itsbeautiful. If I have another girl she'll be Stella.

Also love Estelle , Estella, Seren , Nova, Astrid and the Irish Réaltín (pronounced rail-teen meaning little star)

SquedgieBeckenheim · 24/07/2017 19:40

My grandmothers name, I love it. Was nearly DD2's middle name but resulted in unfortunate initials! I don't automatically think of the lager when I hear it.

juliasalinger · 24/07/2017 19:41

It immediately makes me hear Stella by Starlight (the jazz standard as mentioned by a previous poster). Lovely name. Wouldn't think of the Belgian pilsner first at all and I don't think it's a problem really.

villainousbroodmare · 24/07/2017 19:41

Love it.

SwedishEdith · 24/07/2017 19:42

I really like it. Isn't Stella just a word for star in another language?

IfNot · 24/07/2017 19:46

A bit council estate? What the fuck does that mean?? Whats wrong with living on a council estate?
I like it, It was on my list for a girl.

Ilseburnley · 24/07/2017 19:50

I like it. There are a couple of Stellas going quite far back in my family tree, so it doesn't seem common or trendy to me.

I have never heard of the lager, but it may not be a thing where I live.

I also like Estelle Smile

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 24/07/2017 20:53

What's wrong with council estates?

dowhatyouwish · 24/07/2017 20:57

I personally don't like it as it reminds me of elderly people. How about Estelle? Estella?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 24/07/2017 21:04

Estelle just makes me think of Don.

It's my name (I'm late 40s). It's served me well because I think it doesn't tie me down to a particular age, background or country.

n0ne · 24/07/2017 21:09

I know a 6yo Stella and I love her name.
Really suits her.

ImSoUnoriginal · 24/07/2017 21:09

I know one in her late 30's. We also had a rescue dog with the name and I had to change it, as it made me think of the lager. All my friends drank it as teenagers. If you like it, use it but don't be surprised if people associate it with the drink.

MargotMoon · 24/07/2017 21:22

Love it!

Synecdoche · 24/07/2017 21:23

I try so hard to love the name Stella owing to its beautiful etymology and the poem 'Astrophil & Stella' which I adore...but I really can't shake the artois and Jamie T ("her mate Stellah") song associations...

Beeziekn33ze · 24/07/2017 21:27

Stella Duffy, writer, a strong woman of great charm and energy. If you meet her you experience the Stellar Effect!

I also like Estelle.
