Hi, my husband and I are expecting our first baby girl and are stuck for a name. We seem fixated on one but celebs knabbed it which means it's not out but a dampner iyswim. We are both alternative so would love a dark name that's beautiful. Surname is spelt differently but same as Kirstie from location.

So far we have

Luna Fae (fairy in French)
Luna Celeste
Serephina

Undecided on Tabitha (is it cats name?), Willow (what if they are not svelte? Like naming a weedy boy Thor iyswim).

Love but can't have Lily or Violet (already in use), Persephone (too close to mine by sound) and Wednesday is bit try too hard but could be a middle name if she's born on a Wednesday ;-)

All ears if anyone has any ideas. Don't mind more out there names/ spiritual/ natural or unisex names.

If you like Lily and Violet, how about:
Calla (a type of lily)
Ione (means ‘violet flower’)
Viola
Yolanda (I think this also has links to the colour violet, but I'm not sure)

Alternatively you might like these names:
Althea
Niobe
Selene (means ‘moon’ in Greek)
Séverine

ABCFamily · 12/07/2017 22:51

Also, not particularly alternative, but I think it means 'dark': Ciara

I'm fascinated by this thread!

I really don't mean to be rude but it seems like lots of people know what you mean/get a 'dark' name, like classical names or French names...

Do you literally mean like dark 'magic' names?

Why do you want to name a baby after people who did bad things? Or do you think they have been misrepresented in history/literature?

pinkmagic1 · 12/07/2017 23:10

Yasmin
Belladonna
Zahara

PearlyPinkNails · 12/07/2017 23:10

Ramona or Coco.

What name was nabbed by a celeb ? Is it a well known one? Wouldn't put me off really.
