Eleni - yes or no?

Hi all

I am expecting my first baby (girl) and for years I have loved the name Eleni (pronounced 'ellenee'). It is very popular in Greece and is a form of Helen, but very uncommon in the U.K. I love the name itself and also like the fact that it lends itself to so many variations that my daughter can choose from if she wants to, Ellie, Elle, Ella, Leni etc.

I would really appreciate people's thoughts!

It's nice I think but I was never sure how this was pronounced. Is it ELL-en-ee or el-LEN-ee ? (is the emphasis on the first or second syllable?)

I went to high school with an Eleni pronounced Eh- len-ee. They were greek and she was one of the coolest kids i remember so i've always liked the name

I know one, pronounced e-LEN-ee, but she's forever getting e-LAY-nee even from people who've heard it before. It sounds fine on her (Greek surname), I'm not sure how it would sound on a non-Greek.

I know one too - she is lovely and very bubbly! She gets called Len for short.

I used to know a Welsh Eleni, known as Lenny. I like it.

I'd assume you were Greek.

It's nice, objectively, but liable to being mispronounced and misspelt constantly. The Elenis I know pronounce it eh-LEN-ee, with the stress on the second syllable.
