Remy?

DP and I both really like the name Remy for a boy. We haven't had an entirely positive response about it though! My mother in her usual PA way just said "well if YOU like it...."

In my mind:

It isn't a stupid made up name!
It's unusual but not too "out there"
Would work for child going into adulthood

Thoughts? Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RiverTam · 06/07/2017 13:16

I like it.

WhattheChuff · 06/07/2017 13:19

I love it. It's unusual and cool sounding. I associate it with Gambit from The X-Men (his real name is Remy Le Beau) and I'd like it for a boy. I reckon you'd have to be a bit of a comic geek to connect the two. In my experience, names that relations are a bit sceptical of usually get "owned" by the child and they grow to love them as they do the dc.
Go for it.

shakemysilliesout · 06/07/2017 13:22

Isn't that what the rat in Ratatouille is called by his dad? My 2nd thought is Leah remini, don't know why! It can be rem for short, I think I like it

ifigoup · 06/07/2017 13:24

When I was at school, "remy" was a nasty nickname for the stupid kids (short for "remedial"). But that was a long time ago.

Trolloverbeethoven · 06/07/2017 13:28

Short for Raymond I think. I love it.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 06/07/2017 13:28

I rather like it.
It reminds me of that Remy in House of Cards (US)

It is one of those names which requires a certain surname though, and not Martin 😉

Jooni · 06/07/2017 13:47

Lovely name. Mothers are always the hardest to please as tastes have changed so much since they named their children. I'm sure she'll come round (mine did!)

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/07/2017 14:12

Really like it, I know of a new baby Remy. It sounds like it should be short for something. That's not a negative though, just my first thought on the name.

HamletsSister · 06/07/2017 14:19

French family I know have a Remy (with an accent on the e). Lovely name.

Notmyrealname85 · 06/07/2017 14:27

Oof I think house of cards and one very very attractive man! :)

Great name!

ImSoUnoriginal · 06/07/2017 14:27

I like it. It just sounds French to me.

MikeUniformMike · 06/07/2017 14:52

It's French. Rémy. Means oarsman.

Rem was slang at school and did not have a good meaning.
Generally, I'd avoid foreign names.
Someone suggested Raymond - Ray is nice and has sunny associations.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/07/2017 17:04

Yes, it's great !
They've had their turn, now it's yours.😄

eastie1122 · 06/07/2017 17:05

I thought remifentanil 🙈
But I actually do like the name!

Wheresthattomoibabber · 06/07/2017 17:07

I know two. Both Remi. It's one of their birthdays today! I love it.

SleightOfHand · 06/07/2017 17:36

I like it but straight away thought it was a girls name, I know of one girl called remy.

SleightOfHand · 06/07/2017 17:37
  • oh maybe it was remi.
Mulch · 06/07/2017 17:38

Love it, first heard it on devious maids

FinnegansCake · 06/07/2017 17:56

French. Old-fashioned. Meh.

scrivette · 06/07/2017 18:08

I really like the name, there is a little boy in DS1's school and I am going to try to convince DH for DS3.

BeyondThePage · 06/07/2017 18:10

It will always be the rat in Ratatouille to me...

PlymouthMaid1 · 06/07/2017 18:11

Remy Martin brandy. Quite a nice name I think.

JaimeLannister · 06/07/2017 18:15

Another X-men fan here. Remy LeBeau comes to my mind and I love the name!

IHaveACrapCat · 06/07/2017 18:38

My cat is called Remy LeBeau helpful

Sophronia · 07/07/2017 01:38
