Clementine. NN Clemmie. I love it. This will be last baby (4th) so Iast chance for this.

Trouble is, it has the same number of syllables as our last name. And the last syllables rhyme.

So think 'Clementine Hannodyne' (not our real surname but a close approximation).

So can I? Pretty please?

Honest opinions very much wanted. Be as brutal as you want.

Love the name Clementine (never heard it pronounced Clementeen) and think it'll work fine with your surname. Long term your DD may well have a different surname for many more years than her original surname. .

LoveDeathPrizes · 06/07/2017 00:24

Do it! I desperately wanted a Clementine but it was vetoed.

Notso · 06/07/2017 00:26

So it's not as rhymey as Clementine Lementine but more like Clementine Appletine?
I'm still not sure I'd use it, it's a bit children's TV character. I've 'lost' loads of names I loved through them not going with our surname.

SeanOSneachta · 06/07/2017 00:29

Is your last name Frankenstein please say it is?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/07/2017 00:48

I thought it was ClemenTEEN therefore took me ages to work out what everyone was on about wrt rhymingGrin

timeisnotaline · 06/07/2017 00:55

Do it because I love it! It's not my number 1 girls name though so I'd have to have two girls to get a clementine :). Clemence is also nice but I don't really know how you are supposed to say it with an English accent. Clemency - no.

nooka · 06/07/2017 05:31

I have Clemency as a middle name, and it's OK but not great. Clemmie sounds very unattractive to me. I would pronounce it Clement-een not Clement-yne.

olliegarchy99 · 06/07/2017 05:40

Made me think of the song - but maybe that is a generational thing and no-one else will think about 'the miner 49-er and his daughter clementine' - IMO it is much nicer than Clemency.

Dothbutternoparsnips · 06/07/2017 05:43

Yes it's a traditional working class name where I live and was on my list.

KoalaDownUnder · 06/07/2017 06:10

but maybe that is a generational thing and no-one else will think about 'the miner 49-er and his daughter clementine'

My lovely Pop used to play that on the piano and sing along. That's one of the reasons I 💖it! Smile

mikado1 · 06/07/2017 10:09

You just pronounce it in French (Clem-onse)

HelloFreedom · 06/07/2017 10:35

Ok. Enough faffing. Her name would be Clementine Harrodine.

Harrodine is said Harrow-dine (as in 'come dine with me').

Does this improve her lot any?

I’m sorry but I don’t think it does. It’s a lovely surname but combined with Clementine all people will hear is Ine Ine. Listen to the posters with firsthand knowledge of rhyming names.

NataliaOsipova · 06/07/2017 10:39

I don't think it's that bad. Especially if she'll be known as Clemmie at school.

Popskipiekin · 06/07/2017 10:43

I actually think the flow of Clemency works much much better with your surname. The whole name seems prettier iyswim. Work on your DH Grin

Somerville · 06/07/2017 10:43

Clementeen Harrodine is fine. Clementyne Harrodine is rather a mouthful.

BikeRunSki · 06/07/2017 10:46

The rhyme and rhythm is fine. DM is Jennifer Christina and her maiden name was also 3 syllables and rhymed. I'm not aware that it's ever been a problem!

butteriesplease · 06/07/2017 10:47

Don't do it. she'll just get called Tangerine all the time.
If you are going for rhyming names, then the first letters need to match too! Makes it all ok I think.

or everyone will just sing 'oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling clementine...' at her all day long.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/07/2017 10:49

Clementine Harrodine...... hmm I don't know. Agree you could do 'Clementeen' Harrodine, but I always imagine Clementine to rhyme with dine, and all the Clems I know have rhymed with dine.

Clemency Harrodine sounds fabulous and completely eliminates the problem!

HelloFreedom · 06/07/2017 10:50

Clementeen would solve our problem. Except I don't like anywhere nearbas much!

Pah. We'll call her Child no.4 and have done with it.

Nope.

HelloFreedom · 06/07/2017 10:53

I think enough doubt has been cast that we probably won't choose Clementine.

I suppose even having to canvas opinion is a clue. With my other 3 I never questioned the reaction they would receive.

Somerville · 06/07/2017 10:53

Celestine? Seraphina? Constance?

Choosing s fancy girls name is much more fun than a one-syllable boys name like we need to come up with.

SoupDragon · 06/07/2017 10:54

(Veteran of 29 years of a rhyming name. It's left me with a lifelong belief that people are laughing at me)

HelloFreedom · 06/07/2017 10:57

It's not a fancy name I'm after as such.

It needs to be a Catholic name, preferably well established in English language and needs to go with names of others kiddies. Clementine seemed perfect. Except for that 1 big rhyming problem.
