Maureen

This is my mum's name. Nickname Mo. She says herself it doesn't go with any other names. Her own parents didn't give her a middle name because of this apparently!!

Anyone got any suggestions on how I can incorporate this into a middle name?

First names I like so far are

So fairly traditional classic names, open to suggestions!!

You could use Maura instead of Maureen.

Gosh that's tricky, with the greatest respect to your mum, Maureen is not a lovely name.

I think I'd just use Maureen. I think it goes fine with all of the names you listed, although my favourite is Juliet Maureen.

It's a diminutive of Mary, so you could use any of the Mary names and it would be sort of the same....e.g. Marian, Marianna, Marie, Maribel etc

Or Morwenna nickname Mo?

I wouldn't use Edith Maureen as I don't consider either of those names to be pretty. Maureen especially not, I'm afraid .

Maureen is the anglicised spelling of Máirín... I think it looks prettier. Or as a PP said take some suggestions from Maureen herself?

My MIL is Maureen Frances--Frances Maureen is also lovely!

In all honesty how many times in her life is she going to be called by her first and middle names together? I think Maureen works well enough with all the names you listed.

I'd be careful with this OP. I know a younger woman (mid-40s) who is called Maureen. She hates it as a name and uses Mo as it's less dreadful than her full name.

I also know a lady who was given an older woman's name as her middle name (grandmother) - Dorothy. She also hated it because it wasn't a classic name and had dated badly.

I wouldn't go with a name that your DD will struggle with in future. Family names are fine as middle names if they're nice of themselves. I don't think that Maureen does that, I'm sorry.

What was your grandma's name (mum's mum) in case you can use that?

I know two Maureens. Both youngish (50s and 40s), glamorous and really nice.
A friend wanted to call her baby Dorothy about 25 years ago. I didn't like it then but I do now.

Tricky as I really dislike the name Maureen (sorry). It's lovely that you want to honour your mum but I don't think I'd use that name.

Struggling for nice alternatives. Erm, Maud? Rene? Lengthen Mo to Molly?

Maybe ask your mum what suggestions she has? Variations on her name that she likes? Let her pick a different middle name instead? Or what's your mum's middle name?

I'm baring in mind that while I'll pick a first name that I'll love, my child might not like it. I want to give him a middle name that he can use as an option if he dislikes his first name. Using Maureen as a middle name will likely remove this option for your daughter (unless she loves the name Maureen - which she might!)

Nope, sorry don't do it. I'm your daughter 40 odd years later . I really dislike my middle name, it doesn't keep me up at night but tbh I do think - why out of all the names in world did you saddle me with this one. My mum did it for family reasons too. It's used as a nickname for Mary in my family. I like Mary.
