Maureen

This is my mum's name. Nickname Mo. She says herself it doesn't go with any other names. Her own parents didn't give her a middle name because of this apparently!!

Anyone got any suggestions on how I can incorporate this into a middle name?

First names I like so far are

Edith (Edith Mo?)
Harriet
Imogen
Juliet
Isobel

So fairly traditional classic names, open to suggestions!!

If she goes by Mo why not just use Mo? I think it's a cute middle name. Not too dissimilar to Rae and May is it really? And they're used all the time x

A mara is a large rodent from South America. That's all I can think of when I hear Mara.

Mara is a lovely substitute! Or Moira?

Mara, my DM has a friend Maureen who has always been Mara and I think it's beautiful. It is a name in its own right too.

Is it a little prettier as Maurene?

@Hammybear do you know how your cousin feels about her middle name?

Why does the poor child have to live with a name like Maureen to prove all this? She will cringe every time she has to give her full name.

That's a bit rude. I haven't said it 'has' to, I've said I'd like to incorporate it in some way and have asked for suggestions, and I've had plenty which I'm grateful for.

And of course I'm sensitive to how my mum may feel if I have to say my dad's name is ok but her name isn't!!

I love Edith Maureen!

It's one of those middle names you wouldn't want to tell anyone. I remember my friend hating telling anyone her middle name (Nerys).

My Cousin is called Emily Maureen (Maureen after our Nan).

I am sure you love your Mum and everything, she knows that, she will love her GD to bits whatever she is called.

I like Juliet and Harriet. I prefer Mary to Maureen. In fact I like Mary as a first name.

Or Merryn?

One of my middle names is Máirín, I like it! I have a very Irish first name so might not be of help to you.
Would Mary be an option?

What a lovely life your baby will have Panda !
Your name choices are all lovely.
Don't forget to come back, when you've named baby.
Such an exciting and special time, take care little Mamma 😄x

Thanks sugar pie!

They are very excited. I think it's been very special for them, especially my DM, as they have been able to be far more involved than if I had a partner. Coming to scans, helping with shopping and setting up the nursery etc. This baby is their first GC too.

Just love the name Dorothy. Maybe your dm would be specially pleased to have her mothers name brought in..
But l think as said already that second names dont really get used so your dd will be happy to have her Nanas name if go go with Maureen.

Thanks for all the comments! Funny how Frances and Dorothy have been mentioned.

Frances is my middle name and Dorothy is my mum's Mum name!

Hope my mum isn't on Mumsnet as it's totallly outing haha

I like some of the variations that have been suggested or even asking her to pick a middle name. My dads first name works really well for a boy so I just feel guilty I will use his for a boy but not my mums for the girl! I don't know if I'm having a boy or girl so it may not even be an issue.

By the way I'm doing this on my own by choice (donor) and my parents have been so supportive which is why I was looking to link them with the middle name.

Nope, sorry don't do it. I'm your daughter 40 odd years later Grin. I really dislike my middle name, it doesn't keep me up at night but tbh I do think - why out of all the names in world did you saddle me with this one. My mum did it for family reasons too. It's used as a nickname for Mary in my family. I like Mary.
