How many Lucas do you know?

Not Lucas, doesn't work with our surname and ends up sounding like Luca anyway.

I like it but kind of feel you'd need to be Italian to use it (irrational I know), and main concern is that it seems pretty popular? Don't think I've met any at baby groups but I know a friend of a friend has one.

Arrrrrgh, I don't know if it's 'us'. Naming boys is hard :(

Just one, he must be around 9 or 10. He has no Italian connections as far as I know.

One who's about 5 and two who are about 3. Only one of those families has an Italian connection.

Between 2008 and 2012 pretty much every baby boy around here was named Luca or Lucus, pretty evenly split. The result is the doorbell rings and whoever answers it shouts

Door answerer: DC3, Lucus is here!

DC3: Luc-UH or Lucus?

Door answerer: Luc-uh!

DC3: Which one?

Door Answerer, the taller one, the one with the brother

DC3: the one with the big brother or the little brother?

Door answerer: DC3 just come to the door yourself!

(He doesn't like one of the Luca-s and one one the Lucases but likes the others, but they all call for him sometimes, which is why he very unsubtly tries to make his older siblings screen them)

I don't think it's irrational to think you should be Italian to use an Italian name!

Really bridget? I don't feel that way about Francesca, or Emilia, or Sinead, or Xanthe, or any Hebrew names etc!

I know 3 including mine!
In fairness my family is Italian (I also have a Rocco) but the other two I know have no Italian connection. If you like it go for it, it's a fab name.

Hundreds because it's been near the top in popularity in Italy for the last 10 or so years.

It doesn't travel well I don't think.

Lucas is much nicer. There's just something too try-hard about using a foreign name which hasn't made the cultural crossover like, say, Francesca has.

Personally I love the name but would feel weird using it as we aren't Italian. But as pp said, plenty of people are called Francesca and Emilia! Go for it if you like it

Three - none with Italian heritage...
An under 1 year old, an 8 year old & a 14 year old. Love it.

I know a few, three in our primary (different years) including my very own Luca (and he is gorgeous obviously!)
He is half Italian, as are the others in his school.
We chose it as wanted an Italian name but something easy to pronounce as we are living in the U.K. (Our alternatives were Leandro, Llloris or Gianluca)
I love it as a name and don't this you have to have Italian heritage to name a child Luca

Love Luca. One of my most favourite boys' names. Travels well internationally.

In RL, I only know a 4yr old one, locally [central, southern, UK].
Definitely no Italian family connections there...

Far higher number of Lucases.

Would be a very dull world if nobody ever felt able to venture outside their immediate nationality/ culture etc., when naming their children.

I know an 18 year old and a 3 year old Luca. I know a 21 year old Luka (female) and another 24 year old female Lucja.

I know 4 ranging from 16 to 4 years old, although apart from the 16 year old the other 3 range from 6-4.

I know one and he is my son. Love the name (obviously)
