Fergus?... Too old school?

DH and I are going through boy names and he loves Fergus, aka fergie, gus, fergs. I like it but I'm not 100% because I've never heard of anyone who I've come across with that name! Is it too old fashioned? Thanks Smile

I love it. Not the nicknames, though. Would have to stay as Fergus.

queenofthedump · 25/06/2017 17:10

I love it too. It would have been dd's name had she been a ds.

OnlyRose · 25/06/2017 17:13

I love it. I know a 10 year old Fergus, and he's one of the nicest kids I know.

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2017 17:15

I have only ever known one. Scottish family. Love it! Not Fergie though. (Association with dodgy deals and toe sucking!)

laundryelf · 25/06/2017 17:15

I love it. It may get more popular soon due to the Outlander effect! Smile

strongandlong · 25/06/2017 17:17

I love it. I have a very lovely very friend called Feargus (Irish spelling, I think). Uncommon, but not weird or difficult to pronounce.

hoddtastic · 25/06/2017 17:18

i absolutely LOVE it.

MineKraftCheese · 25/06/2017 17:18

I know a GORGEOUS Labrador retriever called Fergus but I think it's also nice for a boy Smile

villainousbroodmare · 25/06/2017 17:19

Love it and hoping Dais isn't going to use it next month! Grin I know only one and he's handsome and smart and lovely.

Unadon · 25/06/2017 17:23

I too, love Fergus and hate Fergie.

Chatelherault · 25/06/2017 17:42

I adore the name Fergus.

HelenaJustina · 25/06/2017 17:52

Oooh I like it! Not sure about the shortenings but Fergus I do like!

Jooni · 25/06/2017 17:55

I like it. I actually really like the Feargus spelling too. Cool name - clunky in a good way.

DramaAlpaca · 25/06/2017 19:09

I like it, it's old fashioned but in a good way.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 25/06/2017 19:11

I know a lovely Fergus in his thirties. I like the name and like Gus. Not mad about Fergie or Fergs.

peukpokicuzo · 25/06/2017 19:15

I know a 7yo Fergus.

Aside from having to suppress a desire to give its declensions: (Fergus Ferge Fergum Fergi Fergo Fergo) it's a great name

sassylocks · 25/06/2017 19:59

Thanks for all the replies! It's interesting to see a common dislike of the nickname Fergie. That's one thing I'm not 100% on as I love the fact that our DS has a lovely nickname and I couldn't imagine not giving our baby a nickname. Decisions decisions!!! DH is Scottish and we have a very traditional Scottish surname so it would certainly fit well. Thanks all Smile

Fergus/Gus works for me.

Chatelherault · 25/06/2017 20:18

Don't worry about nicknames, his nickname may evolve into something totally unrelated.

greendale17 · 25/06/2017 20:19

Hate it. Ugly sounding name

Ulysses · 25/06/2017 20:21

I have 2 friends with boys called Fergus and are both 8 years old.

RideOn · 25/06/2017 20:22

I like it and I like Gus (not the other nn though)

SpikeGilesSandwich · 25/06/2017 20:26

Fergus is lovely! Fergie isn't great but Ferg is nice.

importanceofhappiness · 25/06/2017 20:26

I love it.

Mothervulva · 25/06/2017 20:28

Love it.
