Really early days but I love names Grin and I have a feeling there could be strong disagreements so we need to get the ball rolling. I've got a son called Connor and a DSD called Abigail

  • Paige - this was a frontrunner in my last pregnancy but that was 13 years ago so I'm worried it's a little dated now.
  • Lucy
  • Megan - again, is it dated?
  • Lara
  • Harriet
  • Freya
  • Madeline

I'm also open to any suggestions, but I don't like granny-chick or the current trend of floral and nature type names (Daisy, Maisie, Violet etc). Nothing too outlandish

GeillisTheWitch · 25/06/2017 10:53

Paige and Freya are my favourites.

IHaveACrapCat · 25/06/2017 10:55

Paige is dated IMO, as is Megan

Lara and Lucy are timeless though, and both go well with your DC names.

Amee1992x · 25/06/2017 11:07

Megan is my favourite x

Newmum102 · 25/06/2017 11:09

I love Harriet and Paige and don't think they are dated at all. Harriet would be on my list if we ever have a girl.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/06/2017 11:10

I'd go with Paige, it goes well with Connor and Abigail.

Reow · 25/06/2017 11:11

Love them all except Madeline.

Is Megan dated? I think it's really nice!

itssquidstella · 25/06/2017 11:24

Lara is my favourite. I don't like Paige or Megan. The others are all very nice names.

itssquidstella · 25/06/2017 11:25

(I know this is verboten on mumsnet, but where I grew up, Paige is a 'chavvy' name)

reuset · 25/06/2017 11:34

Harriet and Lucy both nice. Though the only name I dislike there is Paige.

tickyandtackyandjackythebacky · 25/06/2017 11:35

I love Lara and Madeleine. Megan is nice too and I don't think it's dated.

Unadon · 25/06/2017 12:26

From your list, I like Lara, Harriet, and Madeleine (spelt this way). Aside from Lucy which sounds like a nickname to me, everything else feels a bit dated.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 25/06/2017 12:32

Paige - don't like
Lucy - nice, but a bit meh
Megan - lovely
Lara - lovely
Harriet - lovely (my favourite of the bunch)
Freya - ok, but not my cup of tea - I don't like the Frey sound for some reason. Makes me think of yoghurt.
Madeline - nice

Do you know you're having a girl op?

If not, nice boy names to go with Connor and Abigail might be:

Alexander
Rory
Angus
James
Daniel

MarchInHappiness · 25/06/2017 13:12

Thanks for you replies! I appreciate your opinions but do we have to start labelling names 'chavvy', not just because of my feelings but other posters.

Harriet is getting good rep, glad Megan is not in the dated category. My taste in names is still stuck in 2004 Grin I suppose I don't want this baby to have a relatively different 'type' of name compared to our other two DCs, who have relatively quite common names which is why I like both Harriet and Megan quite a lot.

I'm maybe thinking Paige as a middle name.

Decaff, don't know the sex yet. Thanks for those suggestions, I luffs Angus, though it might look a bit odd if one son has an Irish name whilst the other has a Scottish name (or is that just me being weird?!) I also really like Rory...

Redpramlady · 25/06/2017 14:18

Harriet Paige .... lovely!

Decaffstilltastesweird · 25/06/2017 14:21

Nah, I think Irish and Scottish names go fine together. I know loads of families with children with one Irish name and one English, or one Scottish and one or two English. I think it's fine.

I'm Irish btw and I would love an Angus! I also know an Irish Angus.

Or there's Aengus, if you really want an Irish name. Great connection to Yeats with that one too.

Agree with Redpramlady, Harriet Paige.😄

GreenTulips · 25/06/2017 18:36

Harriet is common here - will date (was my fav on the 80's)

Alice
Orianna
Olivia
Tara
Maria

indigop · 25/06/2017 18:40

Just my opinion but I think paige is awful .Madeline is nice !!

Sophronia · 26/06/2017 00:48

Lucy, Lara and Harriet are nice

blahthisistoohard · 26/06/2017 00:56

Lucy (but much prettier spelt Lucie), Lara and Harriet all sound lovely and are timeless. Though I do picture a Lara being in their 30's. I don't think Paige fits in with the style of your other names at all and sounds really tacky.

noodlebum · 26/06/2017 12:05

Out of your list I like the most:

  • Paige (this used to be on my potential list too!)
  • Megan (love!)
  • Lara
  • Harriet
LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 26/06/2017 14:39

Lucy, Lara, Harriet and Madeline are my favs!

pilates · 26/06/2017 17:10

Madeline is my favourite and Paige is my least favourite

Dixiestamp · 27/06/2017 01:01

Lara is my favourite girls' name!
