I really like it, but I would put Katherine on the birth certificate. I am a bit uptight about full names though!

^ This. Great name, though Wink

Same as sum.

It's a classic and won't sound as dated as some other names.

Borntoflyinfirst · 18/06/2017 21:02

We have a Katie. Katherine on her birth certificate. Drives me mad when people don't pronounce the 't' properly but otherwise still love it.

Dixiestamp · 18/06/2017 21:05

Very similar name here and I don't have Katherine on my birth certificate! Good name.

Snap8TheCat · 18/06/2017 21:05

We have a Katie though spell it Katey. She's not Katherine on her BC and there's only one other in her year group so not too popular (she's 12).

Funnyfarmer · 18/06/2017 21:13

Brilliant name.
We have a Katie. Didn't want to use the full name because it's her aunts name.
Didn't want them to become big Katherine and little Katherine.
Also having to constantly correct everyone who reads her name before they meet her.
Plus her names "Katie" perfectly acceptable stand alone name. Not as if it's jaz or liv

Funnyfarmer · 18/06/2017 21:14

Drives me mad when people don't pronounce the 't' properly
this also when my db wrote KT on her birthday card Angry

notangelinajolie · 18/06/2017 21:15

Yes to Katie - Katherine on bc. Gorgeous name.

Scrumpernickel · 18/06/2017 21:15

I'm not a massive fan of Katie but do love Kate. A crisp and cool name whereas Katie is cutsie.

Hothothotsummer · 18/06/2017 21:15

I think I prefer Kate

user1472334322 · 18/06/2017 21:17

I'm Katherine on my bc but never been called that. I was Katie when I was little and Kate now. So I'm bias! I like my name but I'd probably give your dd the option of different nn as she gets older and put Katherine on bc (or kathryn/catherine)

SuperBeagle · 18/06/2017 21:44

I prefer just Kate.

I love Kate.

ABitOTT · 18/06/2017 21:59

I know a Katie who has a brother named Eddy. No 'proper' names on the bc, just Katie & Eddy. I think it is a Mumsnet obsession to suggest a 'proper' name on the birth certificate & maybe I could understand with truly babyish names; however, Katie can suit a child or adult.

I much prefer Kate but Katie is sweet. If I were you I'd probably put Kate (or maybe Katherine) on the BC but call her Katie day to day.

Sophronia · 18/06/2017 23:07

It's a bit 90s. I love Katherine though.

nameohnameohname · 18/06/2017 23:45

I'm a Katie - Katie on my BC - and I'm nearly 50 and work in a professional role.

Nothing cutesy about me!

buttercup54321 · 18/06/2017 23:51

Gorgeous name.

ExplodedCloud · 18/06/2017 23:56

One of the nicest people I know is a Katherine known as Katie :)

KanyesLunchbox · 18/06/2017 23:57

Had he not been him, ds would have been Katie, but with Catherine on the birth cert. I prefer it to Katherine, I don't know why.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 19/06/2017 00:00

I have a Katie. Katherine on BC. Suspect she will become Kate when she goes to secondary school. (I wanted Kate originally.)

Surprisingly rare. No others in her year at school.

Titsywoo · 19/06/2017 00:09

I have a Katie. I think it's fine as a name in its own right. She's a teen now and her friends call her Kate.

Titsywoo · 19/06/2017 00:10

And yes I haven't met any other kids with the same name.
