Would you be using Catherine, Katherine, Katharine or Kathryn?

I like it but do much much much prefer the long version on the BC.

MacarenaFerreiro · 19/06/2017 08:33

You can't move for Katies around here - they're everywhere. Very, very common name. I liked Catherine for my daughter but vetoed it as everyone else appeared to be having Kates or Katies.

CrownOfPrawns · 19/06/2017 10:14

Katie is a name for a little girl. Let her have K/Catherine as an official name and it will give her options for other stages in her life.

Kate544 · 19/06/2017 23:37

Kate and Katie are also perfectly good stand alone names. They're not necessarily short for Katherine!

NachoAddict · 19/06/2017 23:47

I have a Katie so I may be bias but I think it's a lovely name. She does get Kate quite often though.

Dixiestamp · 20/06/2017 00:47

I agree, Kate544! I've never wanted a 'longer version' and it wasn't until I lived in England that people assumed I was a Katherine!

Funnyfarmer · 20/06/2017 09:25

If a name can be shortened.
It's perfectly acceptable for a kathrine to choose to be called Katie, Kate, kitty, Kat.
Then why isn't it just as acceptable for a Katie to choose to be known as kathrine if they want to?

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 20/06/2017 14:42

Katie is gorgeous.

It's my sister's name and my daughter's middle name.

Why on earth are people saying it has to be Katherine? First world problems

RueDeDay · 20/06/2017 14:44

Love it. Never met a Katie I didn't like. Don't think you need a longer name on the birth certificate, Katie is fine by itself.

katmunchkin · 20/06/2017 14:56

I'm a Katherine who is called Katy - I prefer it to Katie, think it looks more grown up.

MikeUniformMike · 20/06/2017 15:57

DD is Kate not Kathryn/Katharine/Katherine/Kathleen/Katie/Katrina.
I don't like the Katey spelling. Katie is ok and Katy is ok.

Funnyfarmer · 20/06/2017 18:32

@MikeUniformMike
What do you think of it spelled like this Ceitidh? It's Gaelic
I'm undecided

sysysysref · 20/06/2017 18:47

Love it, know loads in their 30's and 40's as well as children. No need for a longer name on a bc as it's a perfectly proper name. None of the Katie's I know are Catherine's
