Looking for a boy's name which isn't too popular but isn't too weird or pretentious...

Hopefully will 'go' with his older sister's name Olive

Quite like Moses, nn Mo...any thoughts or other ideas...?

No

disneykid · 17/06/2017 16:51

Only if your last name is Basket.

I wouldn't pick it myself, but I do quite like it.

I think Gwyneth Paltrow has a Moses :) I do think it goes quite nicely with Olive.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/06/2017 17:27

Not Moses.
Cain and Abel
Jubal
Job

Sophronia · 17/06/2017 18:21

I actually quite like Moses.

YogaAndRum · 17/06/2017 18:26

I like it

FatLittleWombat · 17/06/2017 18:29

Isn't that like naming your child Jesus?

TidyDancer · 17/06/2017 18:30

Made me think 'Dingle'. It's not for me, but it's not a bad name!

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 17/06/2017 18:31

I like Moses. It was on my list for what I wanted to call my DS.

C4priSun · 17/06/2017 18:32

I know a little girl called Moses-Mae who it suits

mummytobemaybe · 17/06/2017 18:37

A girl called Moses?! Now I've seen it all Shock

C4priSun · 17/06/2017 18:53

It's cute.

roodienoodiefoodie · 17/06/2017 19:24

Love it.
Moses and olive sound cool.

anchor9 · 17/06/2017 19:30

it's a shame so many nice names are ruined by Jesus.

too Jesusy. i would assume his mum and dad were devout and kooks too

aroha77 · 17/06/2017 19:35

That's the my only worry - that it's too biblical! I am pretty Jesusy myself but not in a name-your-child-an-old-testament-name kind of a way...

Moses is horrid

I would also think that the parents were bible thumpers.

harderandharder2breathe · 17/06/2017 20:42

I think it's fine. Nobody says you can't use Noah because of the Ark or Joseph because he was Jesus's father (you know what I mean)

Some alternatives
Olive and Sebastian
Olive and Raphael
Olive and Ezra

DrSpin · 17/06/2017 20:43

I love Moses it was on our list

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 17/06/2017 20:44

My friend called her ds Moses. She had changed it to his middle name before he turned a year old.
Joshua. .

Out2pasture · 17/06/2017 20:45

it's a really big name to live up to

Yoghurty · 17/06/2017 20:46

I love Moses as a name- I worked with a wonderful young man called Moses. Yes thou, it is religious!

Muumi3 · 17/06/2017 22:24

How about Amos? Similar feel while being religious but not super religious

aroha77 · 17/06/2017 22:48

Thank you for the suggestions! Unfortunately we can't go for Sebastian or Ezra because close friends have and Raphael is way too posh for where we live. I quite like Amos but it makes me picture a really old man for some reason whereas Moses doesn't...

Would make me expect the parents at my doorstep enthusiastically sharing the good news at any given moment, sorry!

Amos, though, was not at all old but an uber-attractive teenage boy when I was a somewhat less attractive teenage girl. Think blond hair, blue eyes, All-American type (but actually very British indeed).

SuperBeagle · 17/06/2017 22:56

Ooh I like Amos
