Is Cassandra too old fashioned?

Would be Cassie / Cass for short. thoughts on the full name Cassandra?

I love Cassie. However I can only say Cassandra in a Rodney voice.

Nice name but don't forget the country will be split on pronunciation. Ker SARN dra and Ker SAN dra. IMO the SARN version is way too Rodney and can't be said any other way.
On the other hand Cassie by itself is lovely

I naturally say it rodney version (SARN) and saying San sound odds in my accent

i do like Cassia however Cassandra would be used as being named after someone in our family and wouldn't quite work sadly

It might sound odd to you but unless your DD never leaves the South and never meets anyone not local they will inevitably be called the SAN version at some points in their lives. It would actually be quite interesting to see how UK geographical location would affect the pronunciation.

I'm the opposite in that I could never bring myself too say SARN it really sounds wrong to me.

sluj, that's true! however im not all that fussed about whether she will be called San or Sarn as i think she would likely be just called Cass. However does the pronunciation CasSARNdra put you off the name ?

I'm a Kas-SAN-dra although only every get called Kassie/Kas. Up North and can't imagine saying it the Rodney way. I hated it as a child but now I quite like it. I prefer Kas but it's unusual enough that you don't meet many others with the same name without being completely out there. And there are lots of options for nicknames too. I say go for it.

Personally I don't like SARN but then I am midlandish. It sounds very affected and trying to be posh if I hear that. I don't think it would work trying to impose SARN in a naturally SAN area.

However if you live in a SARN area and don't think there would be too many SAN people in her life, you should go for it. Unless you have close family who are SANs. My family are split Midlands and South so I had to think of these things. Alexander is the same.

It is a very pretty name and Cassie is really pretty but strong at the same time

It's the name of an actual star constellation in the night sky. It removes the SAN/SARN issue and still allows for Cass/Cassie nickname.

Classical Greek names are above being 'old fashioned', and I think any of the pronunciations are fine.

The meaning would really put me off - it's regarded as a really bad luck name where I live.

At least with the full name she can choose Casa/Cassie/Cassia in future. She has options.

I'm not sure people typically overanalyse to origins of Greek names - I mean, people don't see 'Helen' and think, ooh, she caused a load of trouble, do they?

I think Cassandra is a lovely name.

I like it, very nice and unusual. I have only meet one Cassandra and she was a very sweet child.
