Me and my partner both love the name Luna- Mae for a girl! We know a dog called Luna and one of our friends says she thinks it's a dogs name ? What does anyone else think! It's the only name we've agreed on for a girl so far. X

Luna is very sweet! Not a dog's name in my eyes haha.
I'm just not a fan of the -mae part, I feel like that cheapens it somehow, and when she's older it would sound a little silly x

Yorke00 · 15/06/2017 16:52

Luna is very pretty. I am absolutely not a fan of the -Mae fad though. Perhaps as a middle name, if you must?

brieandcrackers · 15/06/2017 16:53

Agree with previous poster that the "-Mae" part might not age too well - but it would be nice as a middle name!!

Both lovely names in whichever combination - go for it!! Smile

hazeydays14 · 15/06/2017 16:56

Love love love Luna

I know a dog Luna.. the dog is treated like a baby if that helps! Grin her owner named her after the moon in her first language because she's a husky cross

I don't think it's a dog name though. My dog is called Jess but I wouldn't think a person called Jess had a dog name iyswim

Love Luna, but I agree about Luna-Mae. The whole appeal of Luna to me is that it's strong, simple and quirky, and the -Mae takes away from it on all those fronts to me.

punkpuffin · 15/06/2017 16:58

I love Luna. That was going to be dc3 name but we've just found out we're having a boy.

HLBug · 15/06/2017 16:58

I like it, but it does make me think of the Harry Potter character

Abetes · 15/06/2017 16:59

Agree with everyone. Love Luna, don't like Luna Mae at all.

Choccyhobnob · 15/06/2017 16:59

What everyone else has said. Yes to Luna, no to Mae.

Someone will be on in a second to tell you Luna is dreadful though and she will be called Lunatic Wink

I asked about the name when I was pregnant and everyone told me it was awful (we had a boy anyway!) but I still loved it!

Reow · 15/06/2017 17:03

I absolutely love Luna.

Sick to death of Mae though.

Luna Leigh?

Youvegotafriendinme · 15/06/2017 17:08

Oh, I don't like Luna I'm afraid, I know a little girl called Luna and even her parents said they've received funny looks when asked her name.
It seems to be popular at the moment though. If you go for Luna, I'd definitely drop the mae

Chickydoo · 15/06/2017 17:09

I have a friend with a dog 'Luna'

rebs1993 · 15/06/2017 17:10

Thanks all!! My partner is keen on Marie as a middle name but I'm not to sure we just said Luna until my mother in law mentioned the mae part! Just don't want to have to listen to everyone saying it's a dog name but I think it's beautiful! X

Rumtopf · 15/06/2017 17:13

I love it!
Not the Mae part though a middle name of Marie goes well. It's not a dog's name at all.

Yorke00 · 15/06/2017 17:16

Luna Marie is gorgeous OP Smile

Sophronia · 15/06/2017 17:29

Luna Marie is much nicer than Luna-Mae

dontcallmelen · 15/06/2017 17:31

Agree with pp Luna Marie is really pretty, much nicer than Mae.

JunebabyT · 15/06/2017 17:37

I know a dog Luna and a couple of babies. I wouldn't see it as a dogs name particularly. Definitely prefer Luna Marie to Luna-Mae

Chloris33 · 15/06/2017 17:45

I do find it hard not to think of 'lunatic' and 'lunar'. Of names with the same meaning relating to the moon, I much prefer 'Selina/Selena'.

Lemondrop99 · 15/06/2017 17:48

Just Luna is lovely. I'm not keen on Mae at all, it's hugely overdone

paddypants13 · 15/06/2017 18:29

Luna is lovely but I'm not too keen on Mae. I do like Marie or Maria with it though.

dandeliondelilah · 15/06/2017 18:37

I know a dog, a cat and a lizard each called Luna, but no human children yet!

LorLorr2 · 15/06/2017 18:38

Oh, Luna Marie is so lovely!

ScarletSienna · 15/06/2017 18:47

I think 'lunatic' whenever I hear the name Luna. It has come up a fair bit over recent years on here and it seems more positively thought of on this thread than usual. I want to like it but just don't. I wouldn't use it because of how close it is to lunatic.

FreeNiki · 15/06/2017 18:52

One of my friends has a dd named Luna. She is French.

Nice name.
