Me and my partner both love the name Luna- Mae for a girl! We know a dog called Luna and one of our friends says she thinks it's a dogs name ? What does anyone else think! It's the only name we've agreed on for a girl so far. X

One of my friends has a dd named Luna. She is French.

Nice name.

OwlsinTowls · 15/06/2017 19:04

Top of my list.

Frazzled2207 · 15/06/2017 19:11

Luna Marie. No hyphen. Lovely.
Do find the -Mae or -May or -Rose tacky sorry.

LunaLunaDot · 15/06/2017 19:17

Luna Marie is lovely!

NameChange30 · 15/06/2017 19:22

And this is why you should never discuss baby names with family! Grin

Luna is a beautiful name. Luna-Mae is not.

If you and your DH love the name, use it and don't worry about what people think or say. It really not too "out there" IMO.

SumAndSubstance · 15/06/2017 22:22

I think 'it's a dog's/cat's/cow's name' is the sort of thing people say when discussing names theoretically. If you have a little girl and call her Luna, people won't say 'but that's a dog's name' - it will just become her name to everybody. Go for it, OP, but I agree with everyone else about Luna-Mae!

GirlcalledJames · 16/06/2017 11:46

Everything's a dog's name if you give it to a dog.
Somewhere, someone has a Golden Retriever with your mother-in-law's first name.
Ignore her.

Sunnyside90 · 17/06/2017 04:12

It's crap when you love a name and you know someone's pets called that. I know 3 cats called Luna so I associate that name now with cats.

However soon the name will only make you think of your beautiful baby girl and forget about the pets you've may of known.

Sorry it's definitely a dog's name imo

blahthisistoohard · 17/06/2017 11:03

I really don't think it is a dogs name, and besides several popular names are often used for dogs/cats (e.g Oscar, Felix etc) and so what! I actually really wanted to use Luna too but in the end wasn't brave enough because I was worried about them being subjected to 'luna-tic'.

I'd still go with Luna but drop the -mae as everyone else has said, it just makes it tacky.

When did May become Mae? It's awful.

29Palms · 17/06/2017 15:22

Lunatic.
Harry Potter.
Sorry.

TeenagersandFurbabies · 17/06/2017 15:26

We have a 4 month old kitten named Luna, it's a great name.

AmyBrookheimer · 17/06/2017 15:27

Luna is beautiful, but step away from the Mae thing.

Llamacorn · 17/06/2017 15:31

Luna is a beautiful name, Luna Marie is lovely and Luna-Mae is just awful (sorry!)

We have a hedgehog called Luna, but I don't think it's an 'animal' name, my dd named her from Luna Lovegood in HP.

WeShouldOpenABar · 17/06/2017 15:33

Luna is top of list I'm a bit worried it's about put to become too popular though

Oleopry · 17/06/2017 18:43

Luna is a lovely name. To me, it has no pet associations!

CPtart · 17/06/2017 18:55

A friend has just named her dog Luna
