Baby is here, still stuck between two names!

Totally stuck and it's starting to stress me out now! I thought she might look like one or the other once she'd arrived but it's not become any clearer. It will be one of these two so please don't suggest any others!

Imogen (immy) or matilda (mattie).

Imogen seems a little more timeless and elegant to me, maybe better for an adult? But there is something lovely about the sound of matilda and mattie seems so much cuter and cuddlier! I'm not keen on tilly though and realise she may choose that herself I the future if we go with matilda. I know both are reasonably popular and I'm not bothered about that, would be interested to hear opinions (not too harsh please as it will def be one of these two)

Ah first two opinions and it's split! Thank you both

They are both beautiful names. Imo the best way to choose in something like this is to get someone to "tell" you which one to pick. Your reaction will get to your true feelings about it. If overwhelmingly the response was "Mathilda" on here, how would you feel about not using Imogen?

Also bear in mind how they go with middle and surnames and what the initials might spell.

Congratulations on your new baby girl! Smile

More unusual, more elegant, sweet abbreviations (I know an Immy and and Ginny).

InvisibleKittenAttack · 14/06/2017 18:23

You want to call her Matilda. Call her Matilda.

(However be warned she may get called Tilly/Tilda as a teenager rather than Mattie and you will have to avoid being that mother who corrects their DCs friends...)

LorLorr2 · 14/06/2017 18:23

I could be wrong but there are a few Madeleines and Matildas around at the mo so Imogen might be more unique?

Or how about both of them, one as middle name, or do you already have that picked? :)

InvisibleKittenAttack · 14/06/2017 18:23

(Although I prefer Imogen, sorry)

lazycrazyhazy · 14/06/2017 18:24

Both lovely and I know 2 little ones of each name so guessing similarly popular without being too common.

HappyLollipop · 14/06/2017 18:25

Imogen is lovely, immy is cute too! I've never heard of the nn mattie for Matilda before though the Matilda's I know go by Tilly.

eternalnamechange · 14/06/2017 18:25

I know of a couple of Imogen's in my area, but no Matilda's. I do prefer Matilda.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 14/06/2017 18:26

Imogen

Mulch · 14/06/2017 18:27

Does she look a matilada or imogen? I think matilada is a lovely child name and imogen is a lovely name to grow into

namechange20050 · 14/06/2017 18:30

Mathilda. Lovely name

newname123456 · 14/06/2017 18:31

Imogen definitely

EllaHen · 14/06/2017 18:37

Both lovely names but Matilda pips it for me.

Breezy1985 · 14/06/2017 18:38

Imogen :)

essieestherson · 14/06/2017 18:44

I recently called my little girl Matilda and I'm so glad I did! It's a lovely name Smile

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2017 18:44

Of the two, Matilda. Mattie is much nicer than Tilda, which makes me think of basmati. Tilly is OK.
Don't much like Immy or Imogen.

soontobeamum1982 · 14/06/2017 18:47

Both lovely, but I know of four Matildas born in the last year. It's becoming very popular. I'd go with Imogen.

bluechameleon · 14/06/2017 18:48

I love both. I think I lean slightly towards Matilda but there's not much in it.

Thumbcat · 14/06/2017 18:50

I prefer Imogen but don't understand why you would give a beautiful name and then use a silly shortened version (speaking as someone who has a lovely classic name but has only ever been called by the ugly shortened version).

MadisonAvenue · 14/06/2017 18:54

Matilda is really lovely.

Congratulations!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 14/06/2017 18:57

The Imogen I know goes by Imo, if that makes any difference. I like them both.
