Love the nn Archie but I feel like Archibald is way too much.

Not a fan of nickname names so would want a full name. Can't use Arthur, and don't like Archer.

Any other ideas to create Archie?

Archibald is awful, sorry.

Archer is the only one I know.

22Names · 22/05/2017 23:59

I know! But I really love the name Archie, so it's frustrating

Just use Archie, especially if you're going to use it all the time anyway.

WatchingFromTheWings · 23/05/2017 02:29

Archie is nicer than Archibald and perfectly acceptable to use!

HeyCat · 23/05/2017 04:31

Archard? It's a French name and means "powerful.

Also think just Archie is fine.

17caterpillars1mouse · 23/05/2017 07:30

I love Archibald it was the name of my first car lol. I'm the opposite to you, love Archibald but wouldn't use it as I'm not a fan of Archie

Kazzawazza69 · 23/05/2017 09:06

Archibald is awful, just use Archie - it's a name in its own right as far as I'm concerned.

Leonardo44 · 23/05/2017 09:07

Just use Archie then!

There is no other full name except Archer or Archibald.

MiniMaxi · 23/05/2017 09:27

Personally I like Archer so would go for that but realise you don't like it.

Do you dislike Archibald or just find it a bit long / formal?

If the latter and you defo don't want to put nickname on birth cert, go for it!

Lemondrop99 · 23/05/2017 10:13

Archibald is awful.

I normally advocate a full name on the birth certificate if going with a nicknamey type every day name (Alfie, Archie, Albie etc). But in this case I'd just use Archie, it's much nicer.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/05/2017 10:35

Okay bit of a stretch - any Russian/Polish links? How about Arkady?
Or any Greek blood - Archimedes. (I know it has a 'k' sound).

A formal name and just use Archie for everyday.

I think on reflection later you may go with something you've vetoed!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/05/2017 10:49

Archer is very nice (Archie).
Just call him Archie, if you want to. 😄

grufallosfriend · 23/05/2017 11:02

I don't like Archibald and agree that Archie it too cutesy/nicknamey.

Perhaps look for another name?

Kalina1 · 23/05/2017 11:09

Please don't name your child Archibald, please.

22Names · 23/05/2017 11:14

Minimaxi - Archibald sounds very stupid in my accent, like I'm trying to be something I'm not

DonkeysDontRideBicycles - I appreciate your research immensely but no links unfortunately

What's wrong with just Archie?

MrsPringles · 23/05/2017 11:16

I have an Archie. Just Archie.

Although when he's naughty (he's 2 so that's kind of all the time) I do tend to call him Archibald Grin

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 11:49

I acrually quite like Archibald Blush There's nothing wrong with, is there?

There is of course Archembald... But. I personally don't like it.

What about Archimedes?

chainedtothedesk · 23/05/2017 12:15

Archie is cute, but I can't imagine it on a 15 yr old... Not a big fan of Archibald, sorry.

Mclaren37 · 23/05/2017 19:19

I can't think of any alternatives to Archibald, Archer and Arthur at a stretch. Personally I like Archer and don't mind Archibald at all! But that's not much use to you. You might need to think again if you can't live with just Archie.

HeyCat · 23/05/2017 20:38

Everybody has ignored my Archard suggestion :( it's a real name and everything

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 20:40

Hey

So is Archimedes. It has also been ignored Grin

itssquidstella · 23/05/2017 20:45

I like the name Archibald. I think the idea that it's too posh/pretentious/whatever is self-perpetuating - the more people who use it, the less of a mouthful it will seem!

HeyCat · 23/05/2017 20:45

I like Archimedes. I think I'm done having children but it would be a good cat name.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 20:49

Hey

I agree... Maybe we'll get another cat (well, DH is actually hoping for a dog....). But I prefer Archibald to Archimedes. It's fabulous imo!
