Archibald

Love the nn Archie but I feel like Archibald is way too much.

Not a fan of nickname names so would want a full name. Can't use Arthur, and don't like Archer.

Any other ideas to create Archie?

Yes I like Archibald too but seems we're in a minority!

TheLegendOfBeans · 23/05/2017 20:54

One of my pet hates in life is nicknames as given names - yes I know I'm a bellend.

Not one Archie that I've heard of has the name Archibald. I think giving him his full name would be cool and maybe set him apart from the other Archies?

FairfaxAikman · 23/05/2017 20:55

There's no reason you can't have Archibald on the BC and only ever use Archie.
My grandfather is Henry but has only ever been called Harry - to the point that DSis didn't realise that wasn't actually his name and when giving my DN middle names from great grandparents one was "correct" the other wasn't (DPs DGF was John, known as Jack but DN middle names are John Harry)

Tartyflette · 23/05/2017 21:03

My great-grandfather was an Archibald, it's a fairly traditional Scottish name, I think. (He was Scottish, anyway)
Also i remember the title character in the tv series Monarch of the Glen was Archie, possibly shortened from Archibald...
I think it's rather nice.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 21:11

Hey

Yup, seems like we are. We could feel smug about it, I guess? Wink

But seriously, if we decide to have a DC3 (first DC2 has to actually- finally -arrive...) amd are successful with the whole getting pregnant part? That's a boy name I'd definitely consider. I'd hopefully remember it... :)

However, I agree. Archibald nn Archie is a very sensible solution. Gives him options...
DH's name is Horatio. I don't think anybody actually calls him Horatio (ok, I do, when I'm angry. But I tend to say Horrrrazio..)

I would go Arnold with Archie as the nickname.
Or Arnaud in French.
Or... Arcturus? Archon?

buttercup54321 · 23/05/2017 22:08

Awful really terrible, And think of the hair loss jokes when he is older! Don't make the poor boy suffer with this horrid name.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 22:20

Architect?

I mean, if you can name a baby Hunter, Archer, Piper, Taylor etc...

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 23/05/2017 22:32

Oooh following this as DH suggested Archie for DS2 but I like Archer as the more formal version.
Er I'm also and Archers fan...

22Names · 24/05/2017 00:52

HeyCat - Archard would be great if it didn't sound like I was saying orchard with a rural twang

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite - maybe Archimedes if I run away with a beautiful Greek man

Whenwillwe3meetagain - my mam's a huge Archers fan. Maybe that's why I'm subconsciously put off the name

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite - "this is my son, Architect" may be the last thing I ever say, after my nanna gets her hands on me

Arnold is my brothers name so it's a no-go

(Sorry for the triple post)

Heycat - I REALLY like Archard. That's super cool! And French? Lovely. Go with this OP.

HeyCat · 24/05/2017 07:24

Hah I am now muttering "Archard" in my best country farmer accent and yes it could sound like orchard.

Glad some people like it - family name :)

MiniMaxi · 24/05/2017 07:37

Archard is cool! A quick google suggests that as well as being French it's also an Anglo-Saxon name meaning Sacred.

Otherwise I think just Archie is nice OP. I knew an teenage Archie when I was growing up (he was an Archibald) and the nn suited him.

aKnittingNameChangesSister · 24/05/2017 07:40

DS is Archie - don't like Archibald. Archie gets shortened to Arch all the time. It means the brave and bold one - in my case I couldn't have picked a better name for him!

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 24/05/2017 14:04

Oh no :D Tbh, I think I'd be delighted to meet a little Architect...

Archard is really cool, btw :)!

Ehm, other options: Archelaus or Archil? But I personally prefer Archard or Archibald.
