Is Megan dated?

Not pregnant yet (DS is only 3 months old!) but might be TTC in the foreseeable future. I liked the name Megan before even getting pregnant with my son then went off it but suddenly loving it again.

My worry is that it's could be perceived as dated for some reason? Do you know any young Megan's?

I think it's a lovely name and will soon become very popular.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/05/2017 21:58

The youngest Megan I know of is just over a year old.
Its definitely not dated. Its classy pretty feminine and not too over used.
Plus the nn Meg is very sweet

bingisthebest · 20/05/2017 21:59

It would make me think of an older child. But I think it's such a nice name with a nice abbreviation. It is probably a modern classic.

CrispyBathTowel · 20/05/2017 22:16

I love it and don't think it's dated. It was a very close second for my baby DD's name.

megletthesecond · 20/05/2017 22:20

I know a few, but from 8 to 30. It might become very popular if Prince Harry and MM get married though.

Joeybee · 20/05/2017 22:46

Up until recently I'd have thought Megan was a dated name. I think that's because all the Megan's I've known were born in the 80's and early 90's. So usually names popular in one generation aren't then popular again for a few generations. However I've seen a few birth announcements recently of Megan's, and seen a few people on various baby forums discussing this name. Also, to me, it fits with current fresh and popular names. I think it's a good name, versatile and strong and sweet.

JaneEyre70 · 20/05/2017 22:54

My DD is in her early 20s and is Megan. She gets called Meg most of the time and I've seen quite a few birth announcements recently with the name. Funny how they seem to come in and out of fashion.

lrliml · 21/05/2017 00:07

Pronounced 'Meg-an', or 'Meee-gan'? In Australia they go with the latter, which I am really not a fan of bit discussed this recently with friends and they seem to hate 'Meg-an'.

All the Megans I know were born in the 80s but I don't think it sounds dated and Meg is a sweet nn.

Sophronia · 21/05/2017 00:23

Yes, it's a bit 90s.

CheerfulYank · 21/05/2017 00:30

I don't know! I'm Megan and I'm 35. :) For what it's worth it's served me well. I'm Meg generally.

TinselTwins · 21/05/2017 00:33

Love it, didn't use it but was on my list

shugfish · 21/05/2017 00:36

I have a 2 year old Megan so am obviously biased towards it. The only others I know are all between 8-13 years old. Definitely not dated in my opinion

tararabumdeay · 21/05/2017 00:44

I've got three in my class of 15 year old students.

Hate it because it reminds me of Margeret though all the Megan's are flipping lovely in every way.

Beautiful Welsh names: Arwen.

KoalaDownUnder · 21/05/2017 00:46

Yes, quite dated IMO.

Spadequeen · 21/05/2017 00:46

Not dated, fab name

SuperBeagle · 21/05/2017 00:50

I think it's very dated.

And yes, here in Aus, she'd get "mee-gan" not "meg-an".

I don't know anyone under the age of about 25 named Megan/Meghan.

ExplodedCloud · 21/05/2017 01:02

I nearly used Megan 8 years ago after a fabulous Megan I knew. I think it hit peak renaissance a while back so it won't be popular now.

DramaAlpaca · 21/05/2017 01:08

The youngest one I know is 20. It probably is a bit dated, but I don't think that matters.

I knew a Megan years ago, her name was actually a contraction of her full name, Margaret Ann. I always thought that was quite clever.

BadToTheBone · 21/05/2017 01:26

My friend named her dd Megan 10 years ago, I thought it was very dated then but I notice it's making a come back.

RightOnTheEdge · 21/05/2017 01:30

I know a Megan who is 6 or 7.
I really like it and I love Meg Smile

KoalaDownUnder · 21/05/2017 03:37

Even if it wasn't dated, I don't think it's a nice-sounding name, with that hard 'g' in the middle.

Bit surprised about its resurgence in the U.K., but assuming that's because if Megan Markle (?)

Rockaby · 21/05/2017 07:45

I think it's lovely and only know one who is in her thirties. When I was expecting my now 2yo DD, I think I remember someone on here saying it was really well used where they lived, so I do think it is popular in some places.

NapQueen · 21/05/2017 07:48

I have a "just" Meg. I like Megan but prefer the nn by miles. So we just went for the nn.

grufallosfriend · 21/05/2017 07:57

What's wrong with being 'dated'? At least she won't have to share her name with many others.

Mrsknackered · 21/05/2017 09:00

I think it's dated, very 90's
