Help please! Which is your favourite out of:
Roscoe
Flynn
Holden for a boy?

Will have a normal British surname beginning with E

Thanks.

I'm sure lots of people will hate some/all of these so I'd be really grateful if they'd just decline to comment rather than tell me how awful they all are

You know you don't need to choose the name now? Assuming he isn't born yet, wait til you see his face then choose?

(I'd had a favourite name for months but once he was born it clearly didn't suit him)

blue2014 · 17/05/2017 11:39

I want to like Holden but I don't. It has too much potential for jokes about holding on to stuff

Only1scoop · 17/05/2017 11:40

Roscoe Dukes of Hazard
Holden as In Amanda surname?
I'll go for Flynn Op

DrizzleHair · 17/05/2017 11:42

Very true Blue. I'm due in a couple of weeks and just wanted to gauge opinions in advance. DP is very keen to have me decide the name now (he's drawn the shortlist up with me but is leaving the final decision to me as they're all names he'd be happy with) but so far my brain has refused to think about it, so this is my first step to narrowing down.

I'm tempted to try the names out on the baby once it arrives and then decide after a few days.

We also don't know if we're having a boy or girl yet! But we're agreed on a girl's name so no discussion needed there.

Flynn

I'm a big breaking bad fan and it didn't even occur to me.

Nicky2468 · 17/05/2017 11:46

Flynn - it was my top boys name but my son didn't end up looking like a Flynn plus I had second thoughts about it going with my surname.

blue2014 · 17/05/2017 11:46

Exciting times Drizzle Smile

memyselfandaye · 17/05/2017 11:46

Roscoe reminds me of The Dukes of Hazzard/American Rednecks.

Holden makes me think of Amanda.

29Palms · 17/05/2017 11:48

Roscoe.

Older readers will remember the tennis player Roscoe Tanner.

greeeen · 17/05/2017 12:01

I like Roscoe but there is a little part of me that thinks it sounds like a dogs name so undecided. Really like Flynn.

chickpeaburger · 17/05/2017 12:05

Roscoe sounds like a made up name. Holden is a car.

Flynn is the name you want.

Bear2014 · 17/05/2017 12:05

I love Roscoe. Have you heard the song by Midlake? It would have been DD's middle name if she was a boy.

YouWhatMate · 17/05/2017 12:14

Flynn

My best friend's dog is called Roscoe!

GinIsIn · 17/05/2017 12:20

Holden - no way! Have you read 'Catcher in the Rye'? Those are not qualities I would want to associate with my son.

Roscoe - I really don't like this, not sure why, I just don't.

Flynn- gets my vote by process of elimination

ChangedUsername123 · 17/05/2017 12:28

I have a Flynn Wink

It's a lovely name, can't be shortened and it really suits him. I sometimes get 'Oh, Flynn Ryder from Tangled?' But I definitely don't mind that (because that's where I got the name from Blush)

Lemondrop99 · 17/05/2017 13:58

Flynn is a great name

Roscoe just makes me think of a chunk American red neck trucker! Sorry.

grufallosfriend · 17/05/2017 13:59

Roscoe is cool!

harderandharder2breathe · 17/05/2017 13:59

Roscoe

pieceofpurplesky · 17/05/2017 14:00

1.Flynn

  1. Roscoe (went to school with one.

Holdon not on the list for me

MargotLovedTom1 · 17/05/2017 14:03

I agree with Lemon drop - Roscoe is a bit of a hillbilly name.

Who was Flynn in Breaking Bad? Is is what Walt Jnr changed his name to? There's a possibility people might call him Finn by mistake, as that is really quite common now, but I do like Flynn the best out of the three.

CricketRuntAndRashers · 17/05/2017 14:22
  1. Flynn! A really great name imo :)
  1. Roscoe: I guess it's ok. But I must agree with Lemon drop.
  1. Holden: I think I understand why somebody would like it. But I just don't....
KoalaDownUnder · 17/05/2017 14:24

Flynn

ScarletSienna · 17/05/2017 14:26

Flynn is a great name. Can't understand the love for Roscoe-it's awful imo! It is the sort of name people say, 'go for it' to other people but would never use themselves (for good reason). Holden is too well known as just a surname I think to be used as a first name.

I imagined your surname to be Edwards when saying them alloud and Flynn sounds good with an E name after.

DrizzleHair · 17/05/2017 14:39

Thanks for the continued replies - a really clear consensus has emerged - Flynn is fairly well liked (except by people who hate all 3 and decided not to comment), Roscoe is a bit split, and Holden is AWFUL and should be never mentioned again.

I really love Finn too actually Margot but have been put off as it seems to be in the top 50 most years recently. And good spot on Breaking bad reference.
