Hi,
I am due very soon and myself and DH are unsure as whether to name the baby Hannah or Melissa! Any ideas?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/05/2017 20:25

I prefer Hannah.

NannyR · 11/05/2017 20:26

They are both lovely names, why not see which one suits her best when she's born.

PaperdollCartoon · 11/05/2017 20:26

Which sounds best with your surname or middle names?

Thatextrainch · 11/05/2017 21:03

Yes, wait until she's born (however, I find Hannah a bit bland and drippy)

YouWhatMate · 11/05/2017 21:05

I love Hannah.

Loyly · 11/05/2017 21:06

I love Melissa.
Hannah sounds so very 'meh' (sorry).

AdaColeman · 11/05/2017 21:08

Both are lovely, but Melissa is my favourite.

minipie · 11/05/2017 21:19

Melissa hands down

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/05/2017 21:26

Melissa. Both gorgeous though

BackforGood · 11/05/2017 21:33

I like them both. Know / have met FAR fewer Melissas though, so that would probably tip it in favour of Melissa.

Sophronia · 11/05/2017 21:39

Both lovely. I think Melissa.

HildaOg · 11/05/2017 21:41

Melissa.

DramaAlpaca · 11/05/2017 21:56

Another vote for Melissa.

user18349332 · 11/05/2017 21:56

I think Melissa sounds more feminine somehow.

They are very difficult names though.

Do they sound equally as good with your surname?

FinnegansCake · 11/05/2017 22:02

I prefer Melissa.

Although Dill-Emma is more unusual ...

user18349332 · 11/05/2017 22:04

*DIFFERENT names I meant to say, not difficult.....durrrh! Blush

Lemondrop09 · 11/05/2017 23:33

Melissa

It's aaaaaages since I heard of a baby Melissa but I don't think the name is dated at all so not sure why it's not more popular at the moment

Maryam1360 · 12/05/2017 00:03

That is one of concerns whether it is a bit dated! Good to know that you dont think so.

Maryam1360 · 12/05/2017 00:04

Thanks! Doesn't Hannah then look more timeless because of that?

Kimonolady · 12/05/2017 00:04

Melissa is nice, but I like Marissa even more! So just throwing that out there as a suggestion :)

SuperBeagle · 12/05/2017 00:06

Hannah is infinitely nicer.

Hannah is a classic. It will never date. It's feminine, easy to spell and pronounce and has no obvious shortenings. It also has a lovely meaning (favour or grace).

Melissa is outdated and will be shortened to Mel.

Maryam1360 · 12/05/2017 00:12

Marissa makes the dilemma into a thrilema :)

OP posts:
Kimonolady · 12/05/2017 00:22

Haha maryam1360, I seem to have hindered rather than helped! Sorry.
I would say Marissa (if you like it!) or Hannah. The thing that puts me off Melissa is that, like SuperBeagle said, it would be shortened to Mel... I think it's a bit 80s :/

PotahtoPotayto · 12/05/2017 00:27

I love Melissa, and much prefer Anna to Hannah.

DisorderedAllsorts · 12/05/2017 05:54

I know five Hannah's under the age of 4 and only one Melissa and she is 30 so it's a vote for Melissa from me.
