I like your husband's list.

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 16:38

Hmm, I don't think I'm keen - I'll check with him though.
I've been saying Jane Surname aloud, and it just sounds so drab Sad

Juniper Jane sounds like a middle-aged woman who loves gin a bit too much ...

Lilias is unusual, I've only ever met one. I like it.

HardcoreLadyType · 10/05/2017 16:38

Of the two lists I really like only Constance. Jane is okay, but a bit bland.

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 16:39

I've never met a Lilias/Lillias - I really want to Grin

Other than Jane they actually seem quite similar. It feels like there must be some names you and DP would agree on if you keep looking. How about:

Cecily/Cicely
Vivienne
Jessamyn (or Jessamine)
Rosalind
Emmeline
Verity
Romilly
Hebe
Peony
Bryony
Lavender
Laurel
Meredith
Marianne
Miranda

EatsShitAndLeaves · 10/05/2017 16:41

What about Clea?

Pronounced Klee-ah

user3459859083590890 · 10/05/2017 16:41

IMHO the problems with virtue names is that child could quite easily be the very, very opposite of said virtue. Making it quite comical!

Grace turns out to be a lumbering clumsy accident-prone oaf.
Constance is fickle and changes friends/hobbies at the drop of a hat.
Hope is a pessimist who sees the glass half-empty.
Joy a real misery-guts.

and so on.....

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 16:42

minipie That's very odd - DP has just said he 'would consider' Rosalind! If he's not a Puritan, he's definitely a stuffy Victorian at heart.

I LOVE Laurel and Hebe

Laurel and Hebe

Just not together though - Laurel & Hardy?!

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 16:44

I also really like Sorrel

OP posts:
CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 16:45

Rosalind is nice

I also like Rosalie. :)

CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 16:46

Laurel and Hebe...
Daphne?

Flower names and Virtue names... Well, old-fashioned names are currently very "trendy"... ;)

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 16:46

I know a lovely Rosalie, I just think the name feels like 'hers'

EatsShitAndLeaves · 10/05/2017 16:48

Ceinwen?

Pronounced Kine-we

It's my great grandmother's name. My a great grandfather was called Islwyn. Can anyone tell my ancestry? Grin

EatsShitAndLeaves · 10/05/2017 16:48

Aggh - Kine-wen. Not Kine-we!!!

Hellothereitsme · 10/05/2017 16:50

Juniper = gin. I can imagine kids saying jumper at school.

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 16:50

It sounds really nice! Smile

OP posts:
CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 16:52

I just don't ever think of the gin thing, so meh. I don't think one can get too bogged down in what kids at school might say. My name was ok, my red hair wasn't...if they're going to be nasty, they will be.

averythinline · 10/05/2017 16:53

Just no to Jane Grin not keen on January not sure why as other month names are ok.....

Rosalind is good, is not the same as Rosalie

if not Clementine how about Celeste ?

inspired by the other thread going - Marigold?

Lauren rather than Laurel (uninspiring plant really)

Hellothereitsme · 10/05/2017 16:53

Isn't sorrel a Xmas fruit cake or a Jamaican drink?

CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 16:53

Coralie, Dahlia, Viola, Flora, Aminta, Mirabelle, Rosemary, Daphne, Marigold, Lavender, Margaret, Primrose, Laurel, Iris, Amaryllis, Aster, Calla, Saffron, Zinnia, Anthea, Arcadia, Arden, Cosima, Cressida, Acacia... (Ok, not all of those are flower names... )

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 16:54

to me, sorrel is a herb, but no doubt also a drink and some kind of cake...

OP posts:
WowserBowser · 10/05/2017 16:59

I like both lists actually. But i like names you don't hear every day. They become so blah to my ears.

I think Jane would be a waste of such great alternatives. But nice as a middle name.

My favourite is Constance. So ive been zero help 👍

minipie · 10/05/2017 17:01

Sounds like he likes Victorian/Shakespearean. And you like nature/North London Grin.

A few that might meet in the middle (some already suggested)

Cicely
Bryony
Daphne
Xanthe
Ariadne
Estella
Fleur
Lilian
Hermione
Juno
Iris
Seren
Sienna
Marina
Linnet
