Like posh names, here's my list, what else should make the cut?

Hi all,

Baby due in 6 weeks and we are stuck for names. I think it's compounded by the fact that ds1 didn't look anything like his planned name and ended up with something way down our short list - suits him perfectly though! He is a Freddie. We have a short, strong surname so first/middle names can afford to be a bit longer but anyway, here is my short list so far. What am I missing and do you have any favourites or good combinations? We'd like 2 middle names.

Octavia (Tavi/Occy)
Ottilie (Ottie)
Genevieve (Evie)
Beatrix (Bea)
Xanthe
Violet

Archibald (Archie)
Theodore (Theo)
Bertram (Bertie)
Ludo
Barnaby
Henry
Sebastian
Milo

pipi

"smart"? Foreigner here, btw. Not sure if that actually works...

But the word "posh" actually makes me personally still think of posh spice (yes, I was a total spice girls fan... But posh spice/dear Victoria is really not classy or elegant, is she? I don't dislike her, but...)

pipilangstrumpf · 03/05/2017 12:22

Yeah, smart names! Or beautiful names Smile?

Whenwillthesunshine · 03/05/2017 13:24

I love
Clementine
Sereaphina
Araminta

Rafferty
Constantine
Rafe

AmethystRaven · 03/05/2017 13:31

That tatler list Grin I was giggling by Mao (chairman?!?) then Npeter with the silent n made me laugh out loud and Wigbert finished me off!! Brilliant.

Mrsknackered · 03/05/2017 13:54

I wouldn't say they were 'posh' but I do really like Ottilie and Beatrix. The others are a bit boring IMO.
How about -

Ranulph
Atticus
Cosmo
Quentin

Saffron
Clementina
Olive
Cosima
Gertrude (Gertie)

The Tatler list isn't serious. The authors just made up names! Like Innsbruck, a city in Austria?

pipilangstrumpf · 03/05/2017 14:06

Like be your suggestions, Mrsknackered!

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 14:16

The tatler list is imo clearly nothing but a joke. :D

Although, I admittedly quite like Verbena, one of my mother's favourite herbs. But I'd probably use Verveine.

I wonder if DH would veto Verveine. Louisa Verveine, Lavinia Verveine... Hm. I think I'll have to send him a text mentioning that new "development"Wink

chameleon71 · 03/05/2017 14:45

OP you cannot have Barnaby if you already have Fred - unless you actually are a Flintstone?

AmateurSwami · 03/05/2017 14:47

Trying to think of my "poshest" friends names before realising I don't know anyone posh. Awkward.

I like milo, Theo, ottitilie (sp?) Beatrice but not Beatrix.

greyffinch · 03/05/2017 14:53

The Tatler thing is a joke, surely. And why does she say "pronounciation" rather than "pronunciation"? Is this another posh thing?

Smcg123 · 03/05/2017 14:56

In DC'S class there are 2 children named Tabitha 3 Alex both boy and girls and 2 Charlie's a boy and a girl, Oh and a Sebastian he gets called Seb which personally I cringe at Confused I know of a Beatrice who gets called Bea but that reminds me of the teenage craze that calls their friends or partners BaeHmm

I like Madison, Alex or Alexis, I love Georgia but they might not be 'posh'

IamNotDarling · 03/05/2017 14:56

Thea for a girl.

pipilangstrumpf · 03/05/2017 14:57

But Amateur, posh names aren't the same as posh people!

I know lots of normal/common people with so-called 'posh' names! Our children have such names but we're not posh (although I don't really like the label).

Smcg123 · 03/05/2017 14:58

A collegue who is quite posh Hmm named her child Edward though his given name is Teddy

Jamhandprints · 03/05/2017 14:59

Seraphina, Arabella...hate these kind of names but Freddie is lovely.

pipilangstrumpf · 03/05/2017 14:59

I dislike Seb either, so unmanly, soft and oily sounding (sebaceous), shame as Sebastian is lovely. Suppose it's better than Basty Grin

MrTumblesbitch · 03/05/2017 15:05

Ds is at a naice school. His school friends are all Edward, James, William, Henry etc. Very Thomas the tank!

user1493819825 · 03/05/2017 15:06

Archibald is fairly bad....

Evangeline?
Tiana

LatinForTelly · 03/05/2017 15:08

The 'poshest' people I know are called things like Stinky and Nits.

Anyhow, Christabel and John are my contributions.

pipilangstrumpf · 03/05/2017 15:08

But those names aren't as nice and interesting as the op is looking for, I think. They're a little dull in comparison.

MrTumblesbitch · 03/05/2017 15:10

That's true. If your child is going to be truly posh he will be known by his surname anyway...... Grin

FreeNiki · 03/05/2017 15:15

Look at the Royal family. As posh as you can get.

Elizabeth
Alexandra
Mary
Margaret
Charlotte
Anne
Zara

William
Henry
George
David
Charles
Albert

etc

Not Octavia or Jasper in there.
