Like posh names, here's my list, what else should make the cut?

Hi all,

Baby due in 6 weeks and we are stuck for names. I think it's compounded by the fact that ds1 didn't look anything like his planned name and ended up with something way down our short list - suits him perfectly though! He is a Freddie. We have a short, strong surname so first/middle names can afford to be a bit longer but anyway, here is my short list so far. What am I missing and do you have any favourites or good combinations? We'd like 2 middle names.

Octavia (Tavi/Occy)
Ottilie (Ottie)
Genevieve (Evie)
Beatrix (Bea)
Xanthe
Violet

Archibald (Archie)
Theodore (Theo)
Bertram (Bertie)
Ludo
Barnaby
Henry
Sebastian
Milo

Bear was quite posh until the other day Wink.
I know a very posh man called Gary. It's all in the context...

Doilooklikeatourist · 02/05/2017 22:28

I'd go with
Xanthe Violet
Barnaby Sebastian

DebiNewberry · 02/05/2017 22:33

And Romilly. Ptolemy and Romilly. But only if you are having twins.

LittleIda · 02/05/2017 22:33

I like Bea, Violet and Bertie

LittleIda · 02/05/2017 22:37

I like Tansy from the Tatler list

Sunshineandlaughter · 02/05/2017 22:37

I agree Bertie is hard to pull off on a teenager and is a nn really on a grown man. Personally I'd go with wilbert and have Bertie as the nn

mammmamia · 02/05/2017 22:38

I know a little Octavia. She is shortened to Octie. Don't like it but it's better than Occy, please don't call her that!
Go for Genevieve, it's absolutely beautiful and Evie is a lovely nickname. I know a gorgeous one in her 20s who goes by Jen.

MollyHuaCha · 02/05/2017 22:38

From your list:

Octavia
Ottilie
Genevieve
Beatrix
Violet

Theodore
Henry
Sebastian

LittleIda · 02/05/2017 22:39

Particular favourites from the Tatler list are
Debonaire
Koala
Power
Npeter
Wigbert
Grin

Hotpinkangel19 · 02/05/2017 22:50

Some of these names! 😂😂

Ojoj1974 · 03/05/2017 00:04

I love Xanthe but I certainly don't consider it a 'posh' name.

Ludo is different but I think it's a bit of a dogs name.

Theodore and Archibald are ok too but a bit done to death I'm afraid.

I quite like Alistair and Douglass... never though it would say that but I do!!!

Batghee · 03/05/2017 00:24

Ariadne
Isolde
Mathilde
Leonora
Melisande
Alethea
Juno
Hellene
Penelope
Verity
Astrid

Theodore
Ambrose
Perriguin
Phineaus
Aloysius
Vivian
Fabian
Augustus
St John

pipilangstrumpf · 03/05/2017 10:49

Not quite sure what exactly makes a name 'posh' but I do seem to love most 'posh' names. I find them elegant, classic and timeless (rather than posh). Anyway, how about

Edmund
Marcus
Quentin
Miles
Austin

Clara
Florence
Arabella
Josephine

PhilODox · 03/05/2017 10:57

All the smartest people we know are named John, Phillip, Charles, Alice, Jo etc.
All of which go with Frederick.
Beatrix and Milo are my favorites from your list.

GirlcalledJames · 03/05/2017 11:31

Leander
Yates
Augustus
Aubrey
Bartholemew
Julius
Albus

pipilangstrumpf · 03/05/2017 11:32

But John, Philip and Charles aren't what some us call 'posh' or 'elegant/cool'. They're a little dull imo. Nothing wring with them (and a lot better than some strange unique names) but not what the op is looking for, I think

pipilangstrumpf · 03/05/2017 11:34

Maybe we need to find another word for names that are cool, underused, classic, elegant etcSmile?
