I can't use these initials can I?

One of the only girls names me and dh agree on begins with a B.
Our surname begins with S.
I can't have a little girl with the initials BS can I?

Worse is that the middle name we have agreed on would begin with J.
BJS would definitely be out wouldn't it? Sad

I wouldn't. Our surname begins with O so there are certain 1st name letters we didn't even consider.

Jooni · 01/05/2017 14:05

Oh I think it's fine! It's a bit funny if you notice it but it's not that obvious - hardly ASS or TIT or something.

Gingerbreadmam · 01/05/2017 14:07

my dn is ARS and it took for it to be pointed out to me by her older sister 5 years later for me to realise Grin often call her by her first two names and we have the same surname lol!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/05/2017 14:09

BJS would definitely be out wouldn't it.
Erm 'fraid so, sorry.Grin

putputput · 01/05/2017 14:18

Oh boo :( yes you're all right I think, back to the drawing board I guess.

Uh... No, sorry.

B (something) S (BAS, BLS, BYS...)? Sure. BJS? No, I'm sorry.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/05/2017 14:23

What is bjs?

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 01/05/2017 14:27

Xmas

Plural of BJ (=blowjob), I would have thought? BJs?

Also the British Journal of Surgery ;)

Pigofwar · 01/05/2017 14:34

I don't think the initials BS matter at all.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/05/2017 14:38

Oh ok of course - don't think it's a deal breaker though. Do people really look at initials much?

OvO · 01/05/2017 14:40

BS is fine. Go for it.

But not BJS!

Laniakea · 01/05/2017 14:40

I wouldn't use BJS but BS with a different middle name is okay I think.

(One of my dc has the initials PLEB - so I might not be the best to advise though!)

MoonHare · 01/05/2017 14:40

Some people do think initials matter. People who have double meaning initials are probably a high proportion of them.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/05/2017 14:42

OK sure. No, I think it's OK. Most people don't really use their middle name in daily life. I hardly know anyone's middle names. If I was using initials I'd only use BS.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 01/05/2017 14:44

No one would see BJS and read "BJs" surely? Like you'd actually meet a child or an adult and say their initials as bee-jays?
Wouldn't you just say bee-jay-ess?

I'd say BS was worse than BJS as people do actually say "BS".

rainbowsandglitterandshit · 01/05/2017 14:48

I wouldn't, but DC1 has the initials RAT so what the hell do I know!

Sunshineandlaughter · 01/05/2017 14:54

I think bjs or bs is fine!

FluffyBathTowel · 01/05/2017 14:55

I think BS is fine. BJS not so fine.

RedSandYellowSand · 01/05/2017 15:32

What about JBS?
I am e.g. IPG, always called P to avoid being PIG. That doesn't get round the BS initials, which I don't think are that bad.

TaliDiNozzo · 01/05/2017 18:52

I know someone who has given their DD the initials BO. The first name is also a masculine version of a unisex name as well. Not a great idea really.

Mumoftheark · 01/05/2017 21:12

😂 I'm pretty immature so I'm going to say definitely not especially with the B. If it makes me laugh it will make kids laugh at her at school.
BS I don't think it's necessarily too bad but BJs no you can't

FreeNiki · 01/05/2017 23:11

Unless your initials are monogrammed on a towel who even knows or thinks about it?

I did know a kid with ASS initials and had a monogrammed towel though.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 01/05/2017 23:16

FreeNiki

Well, I got monogrammed stuff when I married DH (I think it's a rather normal wedding gift, isn't it? Or maybe not in the UK, Idk.)

And we also needed monogrammed stuff for school. I just imagine a recorder sheath with the initials "BJS" on it... I mean. That would be rather akward, wouldn't it?

GirlOverboard · 01/05/2017 23:38

Like Britney Jean Spears?

I mean I'm a fan of hers and I don't think I've ever thought twice about her initials being BS/BJS or that she named an album Britney Jean (BJ). In the real world people generally don't notice or care about these things.

Joeybee · 01/05/2017 23:58

i don't think kids would pick up on BS tbh, not till high school anyway.
