Actually I do work in recruitment and any CVs where the name begins with a J or a K goes straight in the bin.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 01/05/2017 23:13

'Show me a list of Chardonnays and Summer-Maes and maybe you'd have a point.'

Well I think we'd need to wait a generation don't you, seeing as those are very modern names? But I sincerely hope that forty years from now all the professions are littered with Chardonnays and similar. Although I'm sure even you know that it's socio economic reasons that prevent working class kids from breaking through these barriers rather than just their name. But if the current government continues as it has been, social mobility will continue to be stunted. Which sadly will please some people...

What, like James and Kate?

Lepetitmarsellais · 01/05/2017 23:15

So are we now making ASSUMPTIONS on how other posters vote?

Sorry to disappoint. Fully paid up member of the Labour Party actually.

WinBigly · 01/05/2017 23:15

I like it, it's a pretty name.

My only reservation (as mentioned by a pp) is that it's the name of an unpleasant character in Hollyoaks. I doubt anyone will remember that by the time your daughter goes to school though.

forfuckssakenet · 01/05/2017 23:16

Sad.

I see why the Tories do what they do.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 01/05/2017 23:19

'So are we now making ASSUMPTIONS on how other posters vote?

You have nailed your prejudices to the mast, it's irrelevant which party you belong to.

forfuckssakenet · 01/05/2017 23:20

😂

Jeeso. I've heard it all now.

A fully paid up member of the Labour Party who is anti working class 😂😂😂

It's definitely true about labour's identity crisis.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 01/05/2017 23:21

I'm from Horsham and I've never heard the word chavvy used as MsGrinch uses it. Hmm

It's always used as a derogatory term e.g People from Crawley are really chavvy.

Anyway, Sienna is a pretty name.

But then You should ignore me as my son has a chavvy name, and will never be a high court judge. Sad😭

RainbowJack · 01/05/2017 23:23

Actually I do work in recruitment and any CVs where the name begins with a J or a K goes straight in the bin.

I imagine people who engage in this behaviour also bin CVs with names like Mohammed and Darnell.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 01/05/2017 23:26

'Actually I do work in recruitment and any CVs where the name begins with a J or a K goes straight in the bin'

Ugh, ugh, ugh. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. You should be ashamed.

Lepetitmarsellais · 01/05/2017 23:28

I'm not anti working class at all. I believe in equal opportunities for all and a state that will always support those who need it.

I can hold those ideals and still associate certain names with a particular class, be that Jayden or Ptolemy. It does not follow that I am discriminating against anybody myself.

I do maintain however that names are judged in life, like it or not. So as a parent I felt a responsibility to ensure that didn't happen to my child.

I'm just being honest.

buttercup54321 · 01/05/2017 23:28

I know a Ciena

Lepetitmarsellais · 01/05/2017 23:29

Obviously I don't work in recruitment and throw CVs in the bin

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2017 23:29

I think Lepetit was joking - at least I hope she was.

Poor OP, she hasn't been back. I wonder if she realises her thread has caused a bit of a bunfight.

forfuckssakenet · 01/05/2017 23:31

You are engaging in discriminatory behaviour by using the word chav or chavvy.

forfuckssakenet · 01/05/2017 23:31

Sorry OP fwiw I like the name!

Lepetitmarsellais · 01/05/2017 23:33

I'm discriminating against an unborn child on an anonymous Internet forum? Okay.

Lepetitmarsellais · 01/05/2017 23:34

I think you need to educate yourself on what discrimination actually means tbh.

forfuckssakenet · 01/05/2017 23:36

Oh my actual god!

It's the language you're using. It's the using the word chavvy as if it's okay to do so! As if it's a harmless wee word.

forfuckssakenet · 01/05/2017 23:36

And I think you need to educate yourself full stop.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 01/05/2017 23:37

'I do maintain however that names are judged in life, like it or not. So as a parent I felt a responsibility to ensure that didn't happen to my child.'

You were guarding your kid against people like their own mother.

Lepetitmarsellais · 01/05/2017 23:38

Well, I was using the word about a NAME. Not about a person.

Have I harmed the name Sienna? Is it feeling as offended as you I wonder?

forfuckssakenet · 01/05/2017 23:39

Okay so now you're being deliberately obtuse.

Are you for real?
