Hi all :) this is my first post.
We're expecting our first child (a little girl) in August and we're really stuck on choosing a name. Our favourite was Ava but then we were told it's becoming more and more popular now, and I don't want her to be Ava (1of3) in school.
Here's a list of some of the names we've shortlisted - as you can see they're all quite similar. So I was hoping anyone could just give their views on whether they know many people with the same names and which you like. Thank you!
Ava
Cora
Maya
Kyra
Ivy
Ayla
Myla
Rosa
Nora
Aya (pronounced like Ava but with a Y)
Iva
Ruby

I'm pregnant and if it's a girl I'm calling her Ava. Ayla is gorgeous, the only one I don't really like up there is Iva

GraceBlish · 28/04/2017 10:04

Thanks @camnico! Apparently Ava was the 9th most popular girls name last year, which is a shame because I really do think it's so beautiful!

Rosa (I'm biased though)

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 28/04/2017 10:08

Cora and Ruby are so awesome!

I think all your names are great, tbh. Except for Iva tbh (imo).

GraceBlish · 28/04/2017 10:14

Thank you :) Cora is my next in line to be honest! Smile

Ivy

Teddy6767 · 28/04/2017 10:18

Ivy, rosa and ruby are all beautiful

malin100 · 28/04/2017 10:25

Another vote for Ivy, Rosa or Ruby.

Cupofteaandtoilet · 28/04/2017 10:34

Ava, Ruby and Maya (various spellings) are fairly common here.

I quite like Ivy.

I think there's a lot to be said in favour of having a 'normal' name, rather than a more unusual one. Having the same "That's an unusual name" "How do you spell that?" "Where does it come from?" type conversions can become tiresome after half a century. Speaking from vast experience.

I, perhaps unkindly, feel that unusual names are inflicted on babies for selfish reasons. Popular names are popular for many reasons. If you like Ava, stick with it.

GraceBlish · 28/04/2017 10:40

Thanks @Cupofteaandtoilet - as this is my first child and we don't have any other babies in the family I just don't have a clue what's popular nowadays. Cheers for the info :)

Cora or Rosa.

BillyButtfuck · 28/04/2017 10:50

I know 1 Ava and 1 Ivy, both under 5

Ivy is a beautiful name, I also like Rosa.

SuperBeagle · 28/04/2017 11:23

I love Ivy.

I also like Ava, Ruby, Cora, and Nora. I like Aya but suspect it'd be mispronounced a lot.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/04/2017 11:39

If you're concerned about popularity. Avoid Ruby you can't put a pin head between them. Ivy is almost on a par with it.
I love Cora.

GraceBlish · 28/04/2017 11:42

Thanks Awwlookatmybabyspider and SuperBeagle :)

Rosa, I don't know any.

rabbitmummy · 28/04/2017 12:05

Ivy.
Cara?

FeralBeryl · 28/04/2017 12:13

I love Rosa and Ivy.

Please don't call her Iva unless your surname is Biggun Grin

WowserBowser · 28/04/2017 12:17

Cora and Rosa

malin100 · 28/04/2017 13:43

I'll also just throw this out there but I've never met an Ava (maybe it's not popular where I am from) and have only seen it written. I don't know if it's pronounced as written like ah-va or more like ai-va. So when you say "Aya (pronounced like Ava but with a Y)" I'm still none the wiser. Grin off to Google!

FluffyBathTowel · 28/04/2017 14:00

Cora is my favourite followed by Ivy then Ava and Rosa. All lovely names imo. Not keen on any of the others.

derryjojo · 28/04/2017 14:17

Ivy and Rosa

WankersHacksandThieves · 28/04/2017 14:21

Cora is the nicest after Ava itself.

How about Mara?

fanfrickintastic · 28/04/2017 14:24

My son's nursery class has 3 Ava's, there's only 12 children in he class! My friend also called her child Ava. It is really popular, but because it is a lovely name.

Our of yours I like Nora best, then Cora

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/04/2017 14:26

Rosa, Cora or Nora.

I really dislike Ivy (too old ladyish), Maya has too many different spelling possibilities and Ruby is popular around here.

I really like Ava though.
