Hi all :) this is my first post.
We're expecting our first child (a little girl) in August and we're really stuck on choosing a name. Our favourite was Ava but then we were told it's becoming more and more popular now, and I don't want her to be Ava (1of3) in school.
Here's a list of some of the names we've shortlisted - as you can see they're all quite similar. So I was hoping anyone could just give their views on whether they know many people with the same names and which you like. Thank you!
Ava
Cora
Maya
Kyra
Ivy
Ayla
Myla
Rosa
Nora
Aya (pronounced like Ava but with a Y)
Iva
Ruby

I do know of several under 7 Ava's. It's a lovely name. How about Dara? To me it has a similar sound but is quite unusual.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/04/2017 17:41

❤️ Ruby, then Rosa, I give you IDA. 😄

MrsGB2225 · 28/04/2017 17:42

Cora or Nora

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 28/04/2017 18:17

What about Mona, Iona or Noa?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/04/2017 18:20

Cora or Nora

But prefer Dora!

duxb · 28/04/2017 18:21

My 5 month old DD is called ruby and really suits it.

People always comment on how they haven't heard the name for a while.

Other names on your list are lovely though. None that stick out and I think "eek"

blueskyinmarch · 28/04/2017 18:22

I love Cora and Rosa. I like Nora too but prefer the spelling Norah. The others are fairly popular at the moment.

Comealongpond89 · 28/04/2017 18:25

I love Cora and Ivy. Not heard of any Cora's think it's a lovely name

Enidblyton1 · 28/04/2017 18:28

I like Ava, Cora and Nora most from your list.
Although Ava is apparently very popular, it's not particularly prolific in our area - I only know 1 Ava out of the 100+ girls under 5 that I know of in the area. Whereas we have lots of Sophie's and Sophia's.
You could easily have the only Ava and end up in a class with another Nora.
So I would just choose your favourite name and enjoy it Grin

sidonie1 · 28/04/2017 18:50

I also love Rosa. Ava isn't that popular where I live either. It does fit in with the whole A... names that are really in vogue just now though which makes it seem really popular. Use the one you love the most though!

autumngold6 · 28/04/2017 19:08

Cora or Rosa

Sophronia · 28/04/2017 19:26

Cora, Rosa or Nora

LauraChant · 28/04/2017 19:30

Ruby and Rosa are my favourites. I don't know of any of either under 9 although I know a 7 year old Rose.

Redladybug · 28/04/2017 19:50

Maya or Rosa, imoSmile

BeaveredBadgered · 28/04/2017 19:53

Rosa or Mya are lovely. Also Eva.

CPtart · 28/04/2017 19:53

Rosa is lovely. I know one aged 4. Not keen on the others. Lots and lots of Ava's, Maya's and Ruby's round here.
How about Cara or Louisa?

Mothervulva · 28/04/2017 19:56

Cora.

SirNiallDementia · 28/04/2017 20:02

Cora is gorgeous

ACatCalledFang · 28/04/2017 20:03

I like Ava, Maya, Nora and Rosa from your list, and love Ayla! I also really like Ruby. I only know a Ruby and an Ayla from that list, and one baby with Rosa as a middle name.

I wouldn't worry too much about popularity - my DS has a name which was around number 20 in the baby name charts when he was born, and I've only met two others.

For other ideas, how about Cara, Lara or Dora?

Batteriesallgone · 28/04/2017 20:04

To be honest... all of those look popular to me.

GraceBlish · 28/04/2017 20:05

Aww thanks so much everyone, I think you've all helped us make our decision :) x

I'm not so keen on your style of names personally but Rosa would be my favourite

CakeRattleandRoll · 29/04/2017 00:11

Cora, Nora and Rosa are all lovely.

EatSpamAmandaLamb · 29/04/2017 00:42

Cora or Rosa, I actively dislike the others - sorry!
