Dear Mummies and Mummies to be, please let me know what your thoughts are about the girl's name Ananda? We really like the meaning of it with my partner, it means "ultimate bliss" in sanskrit. We are thinking of giving two surnames with the main surname being Adams. Thank you for your opinions!

Do you say it like Amanda or Anarnda?

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 27/04/2017 15:00

I would imagine people would think you had sinus problems and it was Amanda tbh.

LarrytheCucumber · 27/04/2017 15:03

I know someone with an adult daughter called Ananda. I didn't know the meaning but now I do I can see why she chose it.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 27/04/2017 15:16

I know a girl/young teenager named Anandi? Ananda is very close to Amanda, which may cause some confusion. (No, I'm Ananda. Not Amanda...)

Skp87 · 27/04/2017 15:43

Nice but everyone will call her Amanda sadly

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/04/2017 15:57

Much prefer Amanda.

2014newme · 27/04/2017 15:59

Will alwaysbe clarification that it isn't Amanda

tobee · 27/04/2017 16:10

Sadly it makes me think of chicken restaurants.

sonlypuppyfat · 27/04/2017 16:12

It's daft

Ktown · 27/04/2017 16:13

I know a couple of males called anand. I don't know any anandas though.

Daft?

That's really rude imo.
However, isn't Ananda the masculine form? And Anandi the feminine? I may be wrong, btw.

DalaHorse · 27/04/2017 16:49

everyone will call her Amanda. That is all!

MadisonAvenue · 27/04/2017 16:53

She'll always be correcting people who think she's called Amanda.

memyselfandaye · 27/04/2017 16:57

Nandos

namechange20050 · 27/04/2017 16:57

I know an Ananda. She's South African. I think it's quite popular over there.

Blissful1 · 27/04/2017 18:09

Thank you so much for your opinions!

vanrecovered · 27/04/2017 18:28

I know a male ananda, I like the name.

EpoxyResin · 27/04/2017 18:33

I don't like Ananda but I DO like Anandi.

harderandharder2breathe · 27/04/2017 18:42

Ananda looks like you can't spell Amanda but Anandi is nice

Rockaby · 27/04/2017 19:35

I'm not mad about it tbh and, like pps, think she might have to say, "no, I'm Ananda with two ns", a lot in her lifetime!

How about Anastasia or Adeline?

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 27/04/2017 19:39

Honestly it sounds like you can't say Amanda properly, sorry!! Also, ananda Adams sounds terrible to my ear. Too many As! Adeline is lovely tho as a PP suggested, met a beautiful baby called that the other day and thought it was gorgeous

Chavelita · 27/04/2017 19:41

I love it. There's a wonderful Irish Catholic-turned-Buddhist nun called Ananda in Jane Stevenson's 'The Colonel and Judy O'Grady.'

NeonGod73 · 27/04/2017 19:42

Reminds me of anaconda.

Gallavich · 28/04/2017 06:11

Please stop calling us mummies

That is all
