Paul?

We have chosen amelia-rose for a girl.
We were struggling for a boys name. I was considering Dylan.
Our close friend recently had a seizure and alnost died and my dh would like to name baby after him if we have a boy.
What do you think of Paul?
I like it for a teen/adult name but not sure for a baby
I dont think there is any name that suits all stages of life

noooo don't do it. It's my fil name and my cousins name. Theyre both really old (80s) and very peculiar people. Funny enough Paul does suit them both down to the ground.

Dylan is a really lovely name, use that instead Or maybe Saul as a similar type of name to what you were suggesting?

I really like it. It's a lot better than many current/trendy boys names.

It's what I'd have been called if I'd been a boy (mid-70s) . I like it - a classic name that won't date.

NavyandWhite maybe you're right. If you really like it then use it and my peculiar family shouldn't make a difference to your choice of name. I also have an Aubrey and a Marmaduke in the family so maybe I'm not the best person to comment

I like it. My favourite cousin is Paul and he's very cool.

Not keen, though I'm another with a weird relative, with that name.
I just think it's a bit dull.
On the other hand, as people have pointed out, there won't be many others out there, in that age group.
Do you like it enough?
I prefer Dylan, though that is rather popular.

Sam Faires has called her baby Baby Paul. He's known as Baby Paul all the time as his dad is called Paul too. Baby Paul Tony.

I completely forgot it's dh middle name too .

I know a baby Paul (German) and my colleague recently named his newborn Bruce. David Mitchell named his daughter Barbara. Maybe it's time to bring back Gary

Love Paul-classic , simple name. There won't be any others in his class either..

Or, as someone above said, Saul. Also a great name, a bit more edgy maybe if that's what you want

I like the name Paul but I wouldn't give a baby the same first name as someone who's died, or nearly died (though the two things are clearly not the same!) Especially not if the death/illness was recent, as emotions are too raw. I think it's more appropriate to honour people with middle names.

Dylan Paul would work. Unless you had another middle name in mind?

It's my DSS name. I like it.

I really like it, and I've only ever known Pauls who were nice. I also really like Simon, Jonathon, David and other names like that.

Would like to add that the friend cant have children and would be really touched if we did name the baby after him
Just wanted to be convinced as dh is picking the name of our baby and i occasionally tried to sneak in my suggestions e.g Dylan (which he hates lol)
And no he is not controlling lol I gave him free rein with the names as he never got to pick the names of his children in his previous relationship

There's a Paul at DS's nursery. I like the name, it's simple, well known but not overused and it's easy for young kids to say. Plus you know he will never be mocked for his name or have people struggling to pronounce or spell it

I had a traumatic experience with a Paul so not one for me.

Why don't you choose the name together?
I never understand it when one parent makes a unilateral decision.
The child is both of yours, 50/50 genes, and you should choose a name together that you both like.
It's not up to you to compensate for the failures of his past relationship
I bet the child will have his surname too

It really doesn't bother me about not picking the name, I'm happy for him to do it. And we are planning on having more kids. I have no problem with it. I just wanted to see the reactions it gets as a baby's name
