Is it too much? Would you stick with just Max?

I love maximus and maximillion seems a shame not to go for the whole name

bridgetreilly · 17/04/2017 00:09

Unless you're going with Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius, I'd just stick with Max.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/04/2017 00:14

No I don't like it sorry. Max is much nicer

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/04/2017 00:16

Just go with Max. Maximus is a bit OTT. And Maximillian is a lounge lizard name.

lazycrazyhazy · 17/04/2017 01:50

I disagree, I'd always give a child the formal version of a name to give them the choice. Though I prefer Maximillian.

MadameDePomPom · 17/04/2017 02:14

In some cases the shortening is a better option than the 'formal version'. Max is one of those cases. I can't imagine a scenario where a Max wound feel his life would be enhanced by being called (the ridiculous and pompous sounding) Maximillian. Maximus too is a bit silly, unless you see his future in the gladiatorial business.

Yes, unless you love spontaneous Gladiator quotes being thrown at you (and your son), stick with Max

mum2be2boys · 17/04/2017 02:28

Another vote for Max.

Usually I prefer 'full' names on bc (personal preference) but the name Max is one exception.

ChipIn · 17/04/2017 02:35

Hearing Maximus makes me want to say 'gluteus' first. Nobody wants to be ass. I'd go with Maximilian or just Max.

SuperBeagle · 17/04/2017 05:58

Gluteus Maximus.

I prefer just Max, or Maxwell if you want something more formal.

Sophronia · 17/04/2017 07:07

I like Maximilian, Maxim, Maxen or just Max

NameChange30 · 17/04/2017 07:12

I don't like Maximus - much prefer Maxim.

Rockaby · 17/04/2017 07:22

I find Maximus a bit OTT really and I immediately think of the speech bridget quoted up thread.

I do like Maxwell and Maximilian, but if it's a straight choice between Max and Maximus, I would say Max by several country miles.

Max is nice as a name / shortening, whatever you decide, btw.

yallamamma · 17/04/2017 07:27

Maxim....

Underthemoonlight · 17/04/2017 07:45

Ds3 was going to be max but I liked a longer verison but the one I liked was maxwell which dh didn't agree with. In the end we changed our minds last minute and went for Joshua

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/04/2017 07:46

Nortius Maximus ... Life of Bwian.

SumAndSubstance · 17/04/2017 09:10

I can't get away from the fact that while it can mean 'greatest', it can also mean 'largest'.

ReginaldsMum · 17/04/2017 09:15

I love maximus! Have a nephew named Max and have nicknamed him maximus. If he didn't like it he has the choice to shorten it to max when he is older

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 17/04/2017 10:12

I like Maximillian. Not a fan of Maximus. And I do agree with this:

Unless you're going with Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius, I'd just stick with Max.

BillyButtfuck · 17/04/2017 10:22

I prefer Max or Maxwell

Ontopofthesunset · 17/04/2017 10:42

I don't think anyone in this country called their child Maximus until that film. Maximus is not a traditional long form of Max. I think Max is considered to be a full name as it is, but Maxwell and Maximilian are the traditional longer forms. Maximus just seems a little silly.

EnjoyYourVegetables · 17/04/2017 10:46

In the same vein, I love the name Magnus.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/04/2017 10:52

Just Max.

Mrs5boys · 17/04/2017 18:29

I have a maximus and he is always called max but I like than his actual name is a bit different 😀

lazycrazyhazy · 17/04/2017 18:30

My DIL has a 3 letter name and always wishes she had a longer name which gave her choices.
