Hey everyone, i was wondering is the name Ezra acceptable for a girl? I personally think the a ending makes it sound feminine. I know its not common for a girl but more boy names are being used for girls right? I would hate to not be able to use it :/ need some feedback / opinions? Grin

Ezra - is boys name.
Esra - is the female version, I know a gorgeous Esra!

TheBookIsOnTheTable · 06/04/2017 23:25

For me it's no different to calling a girl Matthew or Mark. But hey, it's your choice.

Wolfiefan · 06/04/2017 23:27

It's your choice but your child has to live with it. I wouldn't. Poor kid.

It is a bit like a mash up of Esme and Laura perhaps. I can see it as a name for a girl, but there are many other great names so I wouldn't rush to choose it.

It's funny how boys' names easily transfer to girls and become unisex but not quite so much the opposite way.

buttercup54321 · 06/04/2017 23:47

Esme
Eliza
Esther

Cagliostro · 06/04/2017 23:48

I know an Ezri and thought that was quite pretty

TinyTemperamental · 06/04/2017 23:51

It's fine OP. I knew an Ezra, she was Turkish.

shitgibbon · 07/04/2017 00:07

I know a female Esra who is Turkish

Sophronia · 07/04/2017 00:12

Esra is a female Turkish name. There's also Isra, the Arabic version.

BadToTheBone · 07/04/2017 00:34

Esra is perfectly fine for a girl.

KoalaDownUnder · 07/04/2017 05:45

No, it's a boys' name.

Esra yes. Ezra no.

grufallosfriend · 07/04/2017 07:11

With the -a ending it feels feminine already but I'd probably spell it Esra, that looks prettier for a girl.

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/04/2017 08:06

No

marmitecrumpets · 07/04/2017 08:14

I've always thought that Ezra sounds and looks feminine

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/04/2017 08:51

CAGLIOSTRO, Ezri is lovely !

BertrandRussell · 07/04/2017 08:56

It's a boy's name. Only use it for a girl if you would happily call a boy Susan.

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 07/04/2017 09:10

Esra? Esri? Yes.

Ezra? No.

Jooni · 07/04/2017 09:19

I came on to suggest Ezri - beautiful name!

Ezra works fine on a girl IMO but it is getting more popular now (for boys) so she might get some confusion down the line.

SuperBeagle · 07/04/2017 09:32

I know a female Ezra. She's cool, so now the name seems like a cool girl's name. I don't mind it at all.

notadutchie · 07/04/2017 12:36

It's like calling a boy Rebecca.

Loving all the alternatives though!

TheBookIsOnTheTable · 07/04/2017 12:47

If ending in the letter A makes a name feminine, then where are all the girls named Joshua?

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 07/04/2017 12:56

TheBook

Maybe in 10 years?

Sisters called Joshua, Jebediah, Jeremiah and... Jonah?

expatinscotland · 07/04/2017 13:01

FFS, It's a boy's name! Why is this stupid trend for giving girls a boy's name? And why is it always girls, not boys getting called Susan or Ellen?

LouKout · 07/04/2017 13:03

Agreed. People should ask themselves if they would have liked being called a boys name at school and for the rest of their lives
