Ezra for a girl?

Hey everyone, i was wondering is the name Ezra acceptable for a girl? I personally think the a ending makes it sound feminine. I know its not common for a girl but more boy names are being used for girls right? I would hate to not be able to use it :/ need some feedback / opinions? Grin

No, just no

hellogirlies · 07/04/2017 14:11

Hmm it seems like a lot of people arent keen. Other option is Violet? but that is getting very popular so not sure?

Love Violet. And Esra is lovely too. If you like it just change the Z for an S.

chipbeanhoratio · 07/04/2017 14:45

I don't like Violet.

It's very common where we live. And it sounds really harsh.

But Esra is really lovely.

hellogirlies · 07/04/2017 14:51

i really dislike esra for some reason. The fact it is a bit rude spelt backs puts me off as silly as that might be. Confused

Oh!! Well spotted!! Hadn't noticed that. But you're right - kids in school definitely would notice & they'd have a field day.

chipbeanhoratio · 07/04/2017 14:57

oops... True. Yes, that makes sense. It is kind of rude spelt backwards...

Esri? Ermioni? Zora? Riva? (Idk, I'm simply suggesting names that are imo kind of similar...)

LouKout · 07/04/2017 15:05

Violet is nice

notadutchie · 07/04/2017 17:07

Hadn't noticed that either!!

What about Vera? I know only one and she's changed the name association for me to a strong and feminine.

hellogirlies · 07/04/2017 18:11

notadutchie, makes me think of the tv series Sad thanks for the suggestion though

How about Eira?

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 18:25

Eirene?

hellogirlies · 08/04/2017 01:40

I also was reminded of the series. Thing is that her generation won't know it that way at all. I was amazed at how quickly my association changed when I met this girl!

"It's fine OP. I knew an Ezra, she was Turkish."

No you didn't. Her name was Esra.

zen1 · 09/04/2017 07:23

Zara?

BertrandRussell · 09/04/2017 07:28

""It's fine OP. I knew an Ezra, she was Turkish."

No you didn't. Her name was Esra."

And you're not Turkish.

frums · 09/04/2017 07:40

In Bosnia two popular girls names are Azra and Esma.

What about Esme? That's popular here.

Or Zara which has a similar feel.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 09/04/2017 08:33

Rita? I'm sure it's due a revival.

hellogirlies · 09/04/2017 13:10

Betrand, who is not turkish? I am actually turkish if you are talking to me. I know esra is a turkish name, i said dont like the name Esra as it is rude spelt backwards.

I know a girl who named her son Ezra, but her Serbian family gave her stick because it is a girl's name.

I think it is nice for a girl, too and I don't see why people get their knickers in such a twist about names.

Especially as the world will get even more globalised and those safe, classic names will suddenly become awkward in other cultures. I have such a typical British name and I get so many odd spellings and pronunciations because I live abroad. None of that causes me the slightest issue.

reuset · 09/04/2017 13:50

No, I don't like Ezra for a girl.

CoteDAzur · 09/04/2017 19:25

Bertrand - """It's fine OP. I knew an Ezra, she was Turkish." No you didn't. Her name was Esra."
And you're not Turkish."

I am, actually Hmm

ChristopherWren · 09/04/2017 19:27

It's a boy's name. Don't do it to your daughter.

CoteDAzur · 09/04/2017 19:38

OP - Just out of curiousity, why give your baby girl not just a boy's name but a Jewish boy's name, if you are Turkish?

There are many beautiful Turkish girls' names.

How about Zehra? (Sounds sort of like Ezra)
