Is this name too weird?

Bligh. I saw it after watching the programme MutinyHaloI love it, but worried it's too strange.

Also would it be even stranger to use it for a girl when it is a boys (though very uncommon) name? Or should i just forget it all together?

It is a bit out there. Blythe?

GeillisTheWitch · 03/04/2017 12:59

Id probably go for Blyth instead for a girl.

squoosh · 03/04/2017 13:00

At first I thought you were suggesting Mutiny!

Bligh just sounds like blight to me and blight isn't exactly a positive word. What about Blythe?

shirleycartersaidso · 03/04/2017 13:00

I saw that and thought it was a great name, but probably really only works because of their connection to the name.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/04/2017 13:00

Prefer Blythe but if it floats your boat...

squoosh · 03/04/2017 13:01

Or Fletcher. Is Fletcher Christian in Mutiny? Assuming Mutiny is the same as Mutiny on the Bounty.

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 03/04/2017 13:02

I saw that Any had named his son this and really liked it but I'm not sure if I liked it more because of the story behind it

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 03/04/2017 13:02

Ant*

cheesecake7 · 03/04/2017 13:03

Ahh not too keen on Blythe. And fletcher is a nice name but expecting a girl and just liked the name BlighSmile

OP posts:
squoosh · 03/04/2017 13:04

Sorry I missed that you were expecting a girl!

bangbangprettypretty · 03/04/2017 13:05

Could you spell it Bly to counteract anyone saying it looks like Blight? It's definitely a way of spelling the surname as I had a friend with that surname.

savagehk · 03/04/2017 13:06

erm... looks like 'bleaurgh' to me at first glance, sorry!

Bluntness100 · 03/04/2017 13:07

Sorry op, I thought it was a typo. I'm female and I would not wish to be named it, I'd envisage a lifetime of mispronounciations and spelling it for people. I like feminine names, or strong names, maybe even classic names, but this is a kind of nothing name....

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/04/2017 13:41

makes me think of Mutants

babymouse · 03/04/2017 13:42

It's a cool name, but I'd spell it Bly.

KoalaDownUnder · 03/04/2017 13:45

It doesn't look or sound very nice. I wouldn't.

phoenixtherabbit · 03/04/2017 13:49

I like it! The captain named his little boy it, but I think it can work for a girl too!

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 03/04/2017 13:49

Never heard of it.

I like Bly. I think that would be the same sound but it looks nicer imo.

Blair? Maybe Blaine?

xStefx · 03/04/2017 13:58

I like it x

TheBookIsOnTheTable · 03/04/2017 14:07

I thought you said "bleugh" Shock

Wikky · 03/04/2017 14:16

Sorry but it's a no from me. It looks like a spelling mistake. Sad. However I'm a big believer in parents choosing what they want (within reason) and people would soon get used to it.

It's definitely not awful though and I love the Bounty reference.

Hmm actually the more I think about it the more I don't mind it. 😂

Wikky · 03/04/2017 14:17

(I love how I can change my mind over the course of a single post)

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 03/04/2017 14:35

This thread made me crave coconut chocolate. Huh.... let's call it a pregnancy craving :)

I honestly don't love the name. But it's certainly not awful either. I think it's growing on me. I currently think it's quite cute. I may adore it in an hour or something Blush

diddl · 03/04/2017 15:19

Wasn't Bligh the cruel Captain-and it's a surname?

heron98 · 03/04/2017 15:31

Yes. HTH
