Help with girls' names... moon on a stick needed!

I am pregnant with my second child and know it is going to be a girl. I already used my all-time favourite girl's name on DD1, though! (She's Maya Grace).

I don't really have my heart set on anything, but everything I do like, DP dislikes. And I don't really like anything he suggests, either. The first name needs to:

  • go well with a last name that starts with a vowel
  • be ok in Hebrew
  • be ok in English (obviously! but worth stating because there are some lovely Hebrew names that I just don't think translate well. And I'm a non-Hebrew-speaker so nothing I can't pronounce!)
  • it would be fantastic if it was also Sanskrit in origin, but I realise this is unlikely along with other constraints
  • a little bit bohemian or unusual is good

I quite like Joy as a middle name, but if we end up choosing a non-Hebrew name for the first name then would be happy with a Hebrew middle name.

What are the names you like that your DP dislikes? And vice versa?

Pencilvester · 26/03/2017 18:45

Dalia?

ChequeredPasta · 26/03/2017 18:46

RedMetamorphosis · 26/03/2017 18:50

About to say Asha.

I have a friend Sela and her sister is Ilana. Both work well in English too.

MamaSchmama · 26/03/2017 18:58

I liked Iris (my favourite), Leila or Layla, Radha, Asya, Marianne, Irene, Beatrice, Lea/Leia, Ruth, Calista. I do also like Joy but have that in mind as a middle name. Of those, DP could live with Ruth or Marianne (he didn't sound very enthusiastic about either).

DP liked Noa, Dawn, Zenith, Ariel, Orli, Tal, Shani. Then (perhaps in desperation) he suggested Antigone, Cassandra, Artemis, Boudica, Diana, Eos and Freyja/Freya. I could possibly live with Noa, Ariel or Zenith, but I'm not that keen.

My DD1 suggests Peppa Grin

Oh, and he vetoed Talia when I suggested it rather than Tal. Sigh.

Thank you, Asha and Dalia are both really nice.

Oh, I like Ariel and Calista. So, I'd stick with Shakespeare for inspiration. Miranda, Portia, Nerissa?

Hadassah?

WankersHacksandThieves · 26/03/2017 19:10

Amarys/Amaris - one of it's meanings is Child of the Moon so that fits with your OP and I think it's old testament so would fit the Hebrew criteria?

or

Eden?

MackerelOfFact · 26/03/2017 19:21

Lila works in Hebrew, Sanskrit and English - Lila Joy is lovely IMO!
