They need to sound good in English and German. And shouldn't cause any major issues for Italian and French speaking people...

I like:

Anton
Peregrine (too Lord of the Rings?)
Vincent
Emmett
Elric
Julius
Clint (I really like Clinton. But currently...?)
Cedric

Elmo Gabriel-that's very nice.

Sunshineandlaughter · 18/03/2017 18:02

I just think of Sesame Street with Elmo sorry - it'll always be a bit of a joke name in the uk

No. No no no. I thought that was the name if DC2 is a boy. Gahh!

Sorry, I'm not angry at you. Just.... Whyyyy? :(

I'll have to google Elmo. And the Sesame Street.

"it'll always be a bit of a joke name in the uk"

Because there's a kid's tv character with that name?

It originates from St Erasmus.

I know a Rasmus, actually!

Sunshineandlaughter · 18/03/2017 19:00

Go with it if you love it! It's just you should know what people in their 30s+ would think when they hear it! It's only in the U.K. Tho so if you don't plan on living here it's not a prob! Gabriel lovely!

So, children today wouldn't know about it or...?

It's only in the U.K. Tho so if you don't plan on living here it's not a prob!

Yeah, we will most likely still be living in the UK...

Rasmus...? Erasmo? Selmo? Telmo? Zelmo?

Shoot. :(

Op, if you love it, use it!

Joke name FFS.

There's always someone isn't there who has to put a downer on things?

Some folks in the UK can be so narrow minded re names.

Singingforsanity · 18/03/2017 19:32

I wouldn't have said it's a joke name, but most people in the UK and US will think of Elmo from Sesame Street. He is a sweet character to be fair 😁

diddl · 18/03/2017 19:36

Absolutely, Sing-not a joke name at all.

Sunshineandlaughter · 18/03/2017 19:47

Diddl not a downer but honestly they couldn't name their son it without being aware! Def still use it if you love it but people in the uk will think of the character.

Right.

You've all been tremendously helpful. Thank you very much. :)!! Flowers

I think I may need to start a new thread for the Elmo issue...? (Dh and I both grew up without a TV [actually, I was allowed to watch some things when I went to school. But only educational programs or movies, never series or anything like that], so... ya, we honestly weren't aware of this...)

"but people in the uk will think of the character."

More than likely-but that's a non issue, isn't it?

Let's face it, it's not as if Op was unwittingly thinking of something that is rude or translates as "cat sick"!

I just hate it when people are sniffy over others name choices.

Perhaps it's because my mum pulled a face & started repeating the name in a silly voice & said "oh no, I don't like it" that it's a touchy subject for me!

Good job we didn't ask her first!

Sunshineandlaughter · 18/03/2017 20:11

Did you call your child Kermit diddl?!

diddl · 18/03/2017 20:19
Grin
Yika · 18/03/2017 20:22

It was already mentioned but Marco is very international. Or what about Leonard, Ricardo, or Johan; Alexander, Adam, Roland or Emilio.

1horatio · 18/03/2017 20:35

Leonard: too much like my own name
Ricardo: isn't than an online auction platform
Johan: Eh, Idk, It's nice. Maybe
Alexander: Too popular
Adam: too biblical.
Roland: old.
Emilio: Idk. I do like Emil, but it is very Astrid Lindgren. And it does mean rival... Which is a bit meh.

Yes, I'm picky. But thank you so much for the suggestions!!

Vitcor: It's nice but I'm just not particularly keen
Albert: Very popular
