They need to sound good in English and German. And shouldn't cause any major issues for Italian and French speaking people...

I like:

Anton
Peregrine (too Lord of the Rings?)
Vincent
Emmett
Elric
Julius
Clint (I really like Clinton. But currently...?)
Cedric

Oscar / Oskar
Otto
Noah?

And another vote for Ivo, that was high up on our list if our DD had been boys

1horatio · 15/03/2017 22:01

Oskar is a nice name, but too popular.
Otto is unfortunately a name we can't use.

Noah is too biblical. Sorry, I'm awfully picky. But thank you:)

Ivo is nice but I honestly think it's too short.

I love Florian! THank you :)

Cillian is pronounced Killian, which is how it is spelt in Germany, where it is a more popular name than it is here.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 15/03/2017 22:07

I love Julius.

1horatio · 15/03/2017 22:09

Is Killian genuinely popular in Germany? huh. Never actually met a Killian or a Cillian.

nel

I like it as well. Pretty much everybody has heard the name before and yet it's still quite unpopular...

In Germany most names with 'C' are pronounced with a 'k' sound so e.g Cillian would be Killian

attilathehamster · 15/03/2017 22:10

You're right to be picky, you have to live with it! Grin

Didn't realise Oskar was so widespread, only know of one.

Last punt with Finn? I think it might be popular in UK though.

caffelatte100 · 15/03/2017 22:21

You know, I think smiling has a great list of names (though I don't like Milan or victor)

I think I know where you might based and what you want!!

Also, I don't believe Oskar is overused. but the pronunciation is not as soft as Oscar would be in the UK.... it sounds pretty harsh in the germanic countries...

let us know what you decide...

BaronessBomburst · 15/03/2017 22:28

I prefer Alaric and Wilric to Elric.
I think Wilric/ Wilrick might actually be a Frisian name.
How about Xander?

attilathehamster · 15/03/2017 22:30

Florian is very very common in Austria, nice name though.

Gummibears · 15/03/2017 22:33

Love Anton and Julius.

How about
Quentin
Marcus
Sebastian

PunkAssMoFo · 15/03/2017 22:34

I liked Anton and Vincent for the same reasons.

Leon
Marcus
Benedict

May also work.

mainlywingingit · 15/03/2017 22:40

Ferdinand
Carl
Axel
Laurin

All German cousins of mine

Sunshineandlaughter · 15/03/2017 22:43

Carsten
Alexander
Dominic

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 15/03/2017 22:45

Raoul?

MiniMaxi · 15/03/2017 22:45

I think Finn in popular in the UK and Germany

1horatio · 15/03/2017 22:50

Ahh!! There are suddenly so many responses. And my phone screen broke today (typing awful. Apologise for maybe being a bit short)

List of smiling:
Lucas: horrible man I know
sebastian: love it
Julien:ex
, Gabriel: abusive teacher
, Alex: too short
Mattius or Matteo: I like Matteo. But it may be too religious
Nicholas: lovely. But that's Santa's name

What about Ludo (Ludovic) or Leo (Leopold)?

OwlDoll · 15/03/2017 23:00

Cillian is actually the name of an Irish saint who travelled to Germany in 686 as a missionary. Not a German name and still quite popular in Ireland, especially since Cillian Murphy became famous.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/03/2017 23:16

Elric is rather fabulous
Also Felix.

GemmaB78 · 16/03/2017 06:24

What about Henrik?

sn1ce · 16/03/2017 07:35

Marius
Marcus

attilathehamster · 16/03/2017 08:15

Just remembered another - my DD have a lovely schoolmate called Nils, and I think his name is rather sweet too.
