They need to sound good in English and German. And shouldn't cause any major issues for Italian and French speaking people...

I like:

Anton
Peregrine (too Lord of the Rings?)
Vincent
Emmett
Elric
Julius
Clint (I really like Clinton. But currently...?)
Cedric

From your list... Sebastian is gorgeous!

I had no idea Nils was from Nicholas, that's a shame you don't feel you can use it.

How about...
Kristofer/Christopher
Torrin (also Irish)
Ivor
Max

Sorry if any of these have been suggested before, my memory is crap Blush

1horatio · 16/03/2017 21:42

too lord of the rings" wink but anyone who isn't a lotr fan probably wouldn't recognise it anyway. Do you think so? To me it seems like an incredibly obvious connection. But I used to be really into lotr (and this whole universe etc)

Although, Perry is Peregrin and not Peregrine, right

pencil I like it as well. But I'm not as excited about it as about some other names, tbh.

Max.... Hm, Maybe Maximilian? Max is so short... Thank you for the suggestions :)

Maxim
Kurt
Peter
Roman
Stefan
Tilo
Felipe

Singingforsanity · 16/03/2017 23:42

Not a lotr fan here, had no idea Peregrine was linked to it. I automatically thought of the book/film Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

Singingforsanity · 16/03/2017 23:45

Also, although Carl/Karl is nice, it sounds almost exactly the same as Carol in a Scottish accent, so if you have to consider Scottish accents I'd leave that one!

diddl · 17/03/2017 08:07

I like

Cormac
Anton
Julius
Sebastian.

Peregrine makes me think of the falcon & julian Fellowes son!

Carl seems very old fashioned to me.

WankersHacksandThieves · 17/03/2017 09:25

I don't think you can have Clint, it might just be me, but it makes me think of Clit (oris) or Cunt :(

How about:

Sylvester
Evan
Piers
Edgar
Austin
Joel

Singingforsanity · 17/03/2017 10:07

Oooo, I like Sylvester....

user1483699375 · 17/03/2017 11:39

Niall Leon Milo Fabian Etienne Yves Giles

user1483699375 · 17/03/2017 11:40

Raphael Gabriel

user1483699375 · 17/03/2017 11:40

I'll stop now I'm meant to be working Wink

That makes me want to put it on our girl's list. But tbh, I've never been a fan of using "softer" boy's names for girls (not sure why. Maybe it's not a good time to suddenly change my opinion when I'm being sliightly hormonal...)

it sounds almost exactly the same as Carol in a Scottish accent, so if you have to consider Scottish accents I'd leave that one!

I don't think so? DH went to university in Schotland (well, for one degree) and I do like it to holiday (a personal "tradition" that has started before I even met DH or moved to the UK, when my father bought me a Scotland trip as a graduation present). Like Carol of the Bells? Christmas is actually my favourite season. So... Uh. Idk.

I've never heard the name Ludociv. My great-grandfather was Ludovico however. Is it Ludovic a "thing"? I've always thought it was either Ludwig or Ludovico

Niall: I think I'm mispronouncing that?
Leon: my name is very very similar. I'm not conceited enough for that Wink
Milo: Have a Milo, a Mila a Mira and a Miro as cousins... But I LOVE that name...
Yves: I really really like Yves, But it does sound like EVE in English, right? :(

Raphael: Would seem like I'm honouring a totally fine person I still don't want to honour.

Gabriel: love that name. But was also an abusive teacher-

Actually, the boy's names list is starting to make me really really furious and sad. there are several bastards that have ruined lovely lovely names for me. And I mean real bastards. Not just an ex or something like that.

Should I still consider Gabriel or...? Huh. Confusing shit.

I actually thought Peregrine was a female name.

Yes, Carol as in Christmas hymns but it's also a fairly dated female name here, was popular around the 1950s I think. If those are your only Scottish connections I wouldn't let that bother me then, I meant more if grandparents or someone else close had a Scottish accent. I had to rule out various lovely names as DH and his family are English and it would irritate me when they mispronounced them.

In regards to the bastards... don't let them win this. There are plenty lovely Nicholas's and Gabriels. Also as soon as you name DS he will become your main connection to the name, when you hear the name you'll think of your lovely DS instead of those idiots. Especially when you're using a very different form of a name (like Nils).

It's difficult to write down how I'd pronounce Yves (I'm Scottish btw). It's not as harsh as 'Eve' (although I think a lot of people would pronounce it like that), more like 'Yeef'. How is it pronounced in Germany?

Singingforsanity · 17/03/2017 17:24

And Niall is pronounced Nye-al.

1horatio · 17/03/2017 17:34

How is it pronounced in Germany?

Idk, I'm Swiss Grin we all have French in school (I had to start studying French when I was 7) so I think most lof "us" Swissies would go with a French pronunciation (especially those who have it as a first language, of course).

OOps, I would have said Nee-uhl.

True. Good point. I think I can do Gabriel. Nicholas... Idk. I think I have to sleep on it. To see if Nils could be.

Oops - I love Switzerland!

Gabriel is a BEAUTIFUL name and I love Gabe too. Please let us know what you decide!

1horatio · 17/03/2017 19:54

Singing

If I remember it I will let you know (I may not, sorry!)

My current boy's names favourites are:
Elmo and Gabriel (I just can't let somebody spoil this name for me, not even my former teacher Gabrielle... Gah)

And then there's a muddle of Cormac and Elric.

After that there's Anton, Peregrine and Julius.

But I still like all of them, so.. That may change. Or we may have an other girl... (don't want to know the sex in advance. So, thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it)

1horatio · 17/03/2017 19:54

Btw, I just said German. Germany is the biggest GErman speaking country... So, how could you have known I'm from tiny little Switzerland? ;)

OP posts:
diddl · 17/03/2017 20:45

I love Elmo!

Singingforsanity · 17/03/2017 23:09

Good for you, not letting someone horrible spoil Gabriel for you! This is my favourite from your list 😊

Good luck, I'm sure you'll pick a winner!

1horatio · 18/03/2017 16:25

I really like it as well. It just seems like it may become very very popular...

Maybe why I slightly prefer the name Elmo. Elmo Gabriel would be lovely imo :)
