A real but unique name for a baby boy

I am currently enjoying watching Sleepy Hollow on Amazon Prime and one of the main characters is Ichabod. It is apparently a real name: Ichabod is named by the Books of Samuel as the brother of Ahitub.

So who's going to be first to name their new baby son Ichabod? Grin

RakingUpBadMemories · 11/03/2017 21:57

Cripes, I know a set of four brothers whose names have now all come up on this thread.

I'm starting to wonder if MN is entirely populated by people I know.

Bombaybunty · 11/03/2017 21:59

I know a Cedric and a Lars.

What about Berrigan?

MommaGee · 11/03/2017 22:03

Has 'unique' had its definition changed, like 'literally' did?

It's no use...

I fear so Sad

Bad DH. Yes he is hot isn't he Grin

Wow some really unusual names.

Please get over the 'unique' thing if I promise never to utter the word in a lighthearted way or otherwise ever again Smile

Other "unique" names...

Carmine
Ludovico
Copernicus
Wolfgang
Eastmund (bit more unusual than Edmund....)
Esmond
Cadmus
Wolfe
Aias
Alcide
Helios
Zephyr
Cenric
Clint (it was rank 4747 in 2015, apparently, which is rather unusual, I guess. But there wouldn't be any spelling issues)

Cynebald
Eadwulf
Wynnstan
Elouan
Loic
Yezekael

Caracatos (honestly love these two versions. It means love but sounds so strong and unusual)
Judoc
Vercingetorix (every Asterix & Obelix fan would at least know how to spell it... Wink)

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 12/03/2017 09:40

*Caratacos

oops ;)

RortyCrankle · 14/03/2017 02:29

Brilliant list ChippieBeanAndHorro Vercingetorix really trips off the tongue doesn't it. What do you think for an NN? Verc or Rix I guess Grin

What about Obidiah? Real, but very rare.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/03/2017 09:14

Or Zebediah, love Zeb.😀

sashh · 14/03/2017 09:24

I vaguely know a Jowan - Cornish child and a Bonyface.

Trills · 14/03/2017 09:30

Someone upthread said "Galadriel" - that's a girl's name.

Or a woman's name at least, she's quite old to be a girl.

Or a female elf's name, anyway.

SenseiWoo · 14/03/2017 14:43

Carloman
Zeno/Xeno
Aesop
Willihard
Imhotep
Philo
Crispus (brother to Findus?)
Valens
Vitus

If you want a name that won't be used by anyone else in the class, try something really traditional like John. I don't think I know any Johns under the age of 40. It has the advantage of being a sensible, timeless name too.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 14/03/2017 15:00

rorty why, thank you Grin

Or maybe Tori? Geto? Idk.

But I think I would actually be quite charmed if I met a Vercingetorix.

(But I used to love Aterix & Obelix comics when I was a child... And actually stil read them sometimes. So, uhm yeah ;) )

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 14/03/2017 15:11

DH just vetoed it, btw.

But I wasn't seriously considering it, tbh ;)

Railgunner1 · 14/03/2017 15:59

Isambard (like Brunel)

RortyCrankle · 14/03/2017 19:28

TeenandTween I think you are being a bit radical suggesting John - far too out there for any normal family, surely. Is it even in the top 1,000? Grin

Hmm Tori or Geto are distinct possibilities.

So come on those with offspring on the way, who's going to name their child Ichabod (perfect ready made NNs of Ich or Bod lol) or Vercingetorix. An opportunity to be different from every other new born in the land. I hesitate to use the word unique, having had my fingers firmly rapped for doing so :P

Please don't tell me off for the lol.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 14/03/2017 19:47

John was apparently still ranked 108 in 2015.... :0

Unlike Vercingetorix. lol Grin I hope I won't be told off for the lol either...

I wonder if it could be used as a middle name....?

Ichabod is too much Ichabod Crane, I suppose.
