A real but unique name for a baby boy

I am currently enjoying watching Sleepy Hollow on Amazon Prime and one of the main characters is Ichabod. It is apparently a real name: Ichabod is named by the Books of Samuel as the brother of Ahitub.

So who's going to be first to name their new baby son Ichabod? Grin

I know a Uriel, Natterjack (yes, they named their daughter Natterjack Toad!! Natty for short!) Odin, Boaz, various old biblical names, Ansel, Pheonix, Gawaine, Merlin, Merry Thinking about it, I know some slightly odd people!!

RortyCrankle · 15/03/2017 02:05

You really do Adarajames Natterjack as a name, doubly so for a girl IMO is completely bonkers Grin

By the way, how do you think Vercingetorix is pronounced?

Some of those names mentioned are rare in English-speaking countries, but quite common elsewhere - Alois and Gunther are just two.

What would Ichabod be shortened to... Ike? Icky? Biscuit

Adarajames · 15/03/2017 03:33

Roarty I lived on a hippi commune for a while, may have had something to do with it! (Alth the majority of unusual named kids I know belong to rather religious parents of one type or another!)

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 15/03/2017 08:48

me of those names mentioned are rare in English-speaking countries, but quite common elsewhere - Alois and Gunther are just two.

Where...?

As far as I know they're both very outdated and unpopular (and therefore not common) in their country of origins/countries where they used to be fairly popular.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 15/03/2017 08:51

Adarajames

I really like the name Uriel... I wonder if people would think we were also quite religious? (Although, I suppose there are worse things)

mrsmortis · 15/03/2017 08:53

@ChippieBeanAndHorro: I'm in Germany and I've worked with 3 Gunter's in the last year.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 15/03/2017 09:01

Right. Outdated and currently really unpopular.

I grew up on the boarder to Germany (and lived there until a few years ago).

A little boy called Günther would be v unusualy imo :)

Lancelottie · 15/03/2017 09:12

I have a weakness for Alaric -- short, spellable, has nicknames.

RortyCrankle · 15/03/2017 09:46

I agree re Gunther - assumed it was a German name.

Adarajames I'm intrigued, in which religion is naming your child after a toad seen as normal? Smile

Well, as none of you are brave enough, I've named the robin that waits for food outside my french doors every morning Ichabod, Ichy for short. He seems to like it Grin

roarty lol that was the hippi commune one, most of others were religious

elQuintoConyo · 15/03/2017 10:28

Wasn't there a Cuthbert in Camberwick Green? "Hugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and X".

X = don't remember!

How about Pubert? The baby from the Adams Family. Can't be many of them around. Pubella for a girl.

Ichabod is seriously growing on me! Bodie, Icha, Chabo... Mmm me likey.

elQuintoConyo · 15/03/2017 10:29

Frogmella and Spudulica should be on the list, too Grin

RortyCrankle · 15/03/2017 10:45

Oh that's ok then Adarajames, was sitting here going through a list of religions, checking if any had a predilection for naming their children after toads. To be honest, I don't think even a hippy can be excused for naming their child Natterjack although I guess it depends what they were puffing at the time - peace man. Smile.

OMG elQuintoConyo Pubert and Pubella have to be added to the list. They are peachy. Not entirely convinced of the inclusion of Frogmella and Spudulica, there is a limit you know, lol. I wonder if Spudulica is pronounced Spud-u-licha or Spud-u-like-a? Grin

PS seriously tempted to change robin Ichy's name to Pubert before he gets too used to it Wink

Roarty - may well have had something to do with ingested substances!

RortyCrankle · 15/03/2017 14:05

Adarajames I would take an odds on bet on it Grin

Spud-you-lick-er if memory of Wayne and Waynetta slob recalls!

AberdeenAngusina · 15/03/2017 17:53

According to Scotlandspeople, two boys in Scotland have been given Ichabod as a middle name since 2000. The last Scottish boy to have it as a first name was born in 1884.

AtiaoftheJulii · 15/03/2017 18:07

I love the name Ichabod. Little boy twins, Ichabod and Obadiah - Icki and Obi Grin

RortyCrankle · 15/03/2017 19:56

I'm amazed AberdeenAngusina Shock

Hahaha AtiaoftheJulii brilliant Grin
