My DH really wants a name starting with M for our DD to be. The only one we both like the sound of it Marissa.

What connotations/thoughts/feelings to you get with this name?

Also do you reckon we can avoid this name being nicknamed?

TIA

I quite like it. Smile

No connotations for me, as I've never known one personally.

Nicknames... Missy?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/03/2017 20:18

It's very nice.

allegretto · 05/03/2017 20:19

I like it. I know two Marissas and they are both lovely.

Rolypolybabies · 05/03/2017 20:24

Makes me think of the o.c. Character. Hides head at owning the Box set....

Yika · 05/03/2017 20:25

Pretty, unusual without being weird or uber trendy.

Rockaby · 05/03/2017 20:26

It's nice! Smile

Redpramlady · 05/03/2017 20:39

I know of one and her bb is rissey
Cute

Redpramlady · 05/03/2017 20:39

Nickname rissey!

ScarlettFreestone · 05/03/2017 20:40

I went to school with a lovely Marissa so all my associations are great!

RuthB4 · 05/03/2017 21:47

I think it's lovely. I knew a Marissa at school. I don't think you can avoid people giving her nicknames, especially school friends. But at least the possible nicknames are nice and you can always stick to her full name in the family!

ToastVacuum · 05/03/2017 22:06

I like it. You may get some people who mis-hear it as Melissa though (also a nice name IMO).

Testiclay · 05/03/2017 22:19

It's my sisters name but she always goes by Milly instead.

Proudmummytodc2 · 05/03/2017 22:21

This is my name, my mum and sister always call me missi but everyone else calls me marissa it doesn't bother me but it can get a nickname quiet easily

Joeybee · 05/03/2017 22:31

I've never met a Marissa. It's not my style, and that's probably because it sounds like Melissa, which, for personal reasons, is a name i dislike.

I can't think of any connotations with this name. I think it is a summery sounding name, I think it WOULD get nn'd to Marie. Rissy or something like that.

If it's a name you like, go for it. It is good in that it is not too popular, but not unheard of, people would know how to say and spell it, and it doesn't, I think, cause any assumptions to be made of the person with that name.

crapfatbanana · 05/03/2017 23:22

I think of big exotic pink flowers. It sounds like a cheerful name to me.

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/03/2017 23:33

I know one. Nn Rissa.

Nyx · 05/03/2017 23:39

I know a Marisa. Lovely name, can't think of any down sides Smile

CakeRattleandRoll · 06/03/2017 00:50

Love it. Had it on list for DD. Our only concern was that we didn't want it shortened to Missy.

LelouchviBritanniacommandsyou · 06/03/2017 04:05

One of my friends has a Marissa and she's gorgeous so I have good associations :)

KoalaDownUnder · 06/03/2017 04:14

It's quite pretty. I still prefer Melissa tbh.

I know one adult Marissa, and it never gets shortened.

Marilla? Nickname Rill.

meettherussians · 07/03/2017 13:03

I think its utterly beautiful, better with one s though. Amazed its not more popular.

MadisonAvenue · 07/03/2017 13:05

Really lovely name and quite unusual. I know of one and it sometimes gets shortened to Rissa.
