Elsa

I have loved the name Elsa for years since long before Frozen. I mentioned the name to some friends recently when discussing potential names and they said it is ridiculous and she would be teased as everyone would just think of the film. Do you think they are right or will the Frozen association fade at all with time? When you hear Elsa do you just think of Frozen?

Let it go.

Allthebestnamesareused · 03/03/2017 20:48

What Pineapple said Grin

Previously I'd have thought of the lion from Born Free but now it does conjure up Let it Go!

EsmesBees · 03/03/2017 20:50

It's a shame as it's a lovely name, but afraid the Frozen connection is too strong for me. How about Erica as an alternative?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/03/2017 21:28

Well there are plenty of Thomas James running around. Thomas and friends haven't ruined those names, have they

SuperBeagle · 03/03/2017 21:34

Nope.

Too heavily associated with Frozen.

It'd be like naming your child Ariel a couple of years after The Little Mermaid came out.

carnation2531 · 03/03/2017 21:36

I know an Ailsa which is spelt different but pronounced the same way?

MrsGsnow18 · 03/03/2017 21:39

I know an Elsa who was born a few years before frozen and everyone associates her name with the film. It has started to annoy her a lot (she's 9 now) but in a few years time this may not still be the case. There will be new Disney films out I'm sure.

CactusFred · 03/03/2017 21:41

I used to like this name - Born Free - but the film has stolen it's thunder at the moment I'm afraid. Don't do it!

Eliza?

SarcasmMode · 03/03/2017 21:43

I prefer Ana but yes, I'd think Frozen. Which is a shame- Elsa as a middle name would be lovely though.

mum2be2boys · 03/03/2017 21:43

Sorry but I automatically think of Frozen too.

PinPon · 03/03/2017 21:44

How about Elspeth, nickname Elsa?

Chocarocker · 03/03/2017 21:47

I have an Elsa and no one has ever really commented on the Frozen association. It worried me when I was naming her but I was told if you really like it then go with it as in a few years no one will even think about it.

fatrabbit · 03/03/2017 21:53

How old is your Elsa, Chocarocker? That's good to hear it hasn't really attracted comments about Frozen, it is such a beautiful name.

Cactus, I do like Eliza as well so that is a possibility if we decide against Elsa.

I'd also think of Elsa the lioness from Born Free (but my children are too old for Frozen.) I still like it though.

Joeybee · 03/03/2017 23:25

It definitely has a strong Frozen connection right now. It's hard to know though how long Frozen will be popular for, the name may lose the connection quickly...or maybe not, maybe it'll be strong always like Simba/Lion King, Ariel/Little Mermaid, Belle/Beauty and The Beast!

Rainatnight · 04/03/2017 07:07

What about Elsie? Or Elise?

Catherinebee85 · 04/03/2017 21:46

I was gonna say Elise, Elisa or Elsie too. Or Ailsa?

lalaland1985 · 05/03/2017 21:58

Do you want to build a snowman?

FatOldBag · 05/03/2017 22:07

It used to be Alf's wife on home and away but now it's 100% Frozen to me. I don't think she'd be teased for it though, and it'll be forgotten by the time she's a grown up (unless they do a sequel). You could go for Elsie if you really want to avoid people thinking of Frozen.

SaltySeaBird · 05/03/2017 22:17

It was my number 2 name for DD but by the time I had a second DC (who was a boy anyway) I had abandoned the name due to the Frozen connection. Probably find in 10 years it will be fine but for this generation I think no.

avaj · 05/03/2017 22:32

Alf's wife in home and away was Ailsa. It's a nice Scottish name, and very similar sound.

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/03/2017 22:39

It's a nice name, I'd still use it. The Frozen link is hardly a dreadful one, it isn't like you're considering calling your daughter Myra.

crapfatbanana · 05/03/2017 23:17

I'd use it. It's a lovely name. As Alis says, it's not like you want to call her Myra.

Kazzawazza69 · 06/03/2017 21:28

Lovely name - very heavily associated with Frozen for me but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

caffelatte100 · 06/03/2017 21:58

Elsa is a gorgeous name and lovely film, what's not to like?

p.s. I might be a bit biased. my daughters middle name and mother's name is Elsa. However, no one says anything about the film, not once have they...
