Elsa

I have loved the name Elsa for years since long before Frozen. I mentioned the name to some friends recently when discussing potential names and they said it is ridiculous and she would be teased as everyone would just think of the film. Do you think they are right or will the Frozen association fade at all with time? When you hear Elsa do you just think of Frozen?

How about Aylessa or Elsie?

malin100 · 06/03/2017 22:20

It's a nice name.

Ailsa, as PP suggested, is not pronounced the same way. In the same way that 'fell' and 'fail' are not pronounced the same way.

I liked Elsa. We went with Elise as I couldn't shake the frozen association. Also liked Eliza

It was the scene in Born Free when the wife is explaining why she would like the lioness to be called Elsa that got me - it was something along the lines of that she went to school with a girl called Elsa who was small and terribly kind and nice but not very good at sport. DP had originally suggested the name after his late DM who was an Elizabeth. I was on a strict 6 week hospital bed rest and highly emotional and hormonal watching the film and cried at that scene as DP made me watch Born Free to check that she wasn't a mass murdering lioness. Still love the name 5 years later on . Only once has anyone commented on DD's name and that was an American lady who simply said 'ahhh, the lioness'.

Eloise
Elise
Eliza

...the cold never bothered me anyway!

Yeah. lovely name and a super popular (but actually pretty brilliant) film.

I personally think the film is still too new. I'm not against all Disney princess names. But Elsa? It's too soon imo. Sorry.
What about Elise? Eliza? Elizabeth nn Elsa? Eline?

Thank you. Hmm, mixed views. I do like the suggestions of Eloise, Eliza or Elizabeth nn Elsa.

I have an Elsa, shortened form of Elizabeth. She's 4 and no one comments on a Frozen connection, she was named prior to the film though. We're in Scotland and know a few Ailsas which is pronounced slightly differently. I her name, it really suits her so I don't associate it with anything else.

buttercup54321 · 23/03/2017 20:16

Frozen and Born Free. What about Elena?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/03/2017 20:22

I think it's pretty.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/03/2017 20:22

Or Elise.

blahthisistoohard · 03/06/2017 00:12

OP did you go with Elsa in the end? I actually find some of the above comments ridiculous. If you like a name who gives a s*it if it featured in a Disney film! I hate Disney and my Dad actually banned us from watching Disney growing up because he couldn't stand the sentimentality...but it would not put me off using such a beautiful name! Besides, the film is four years old already and don't think anyone is going to hear you introduce your daughter and think 'haha that's a Disney film'. Every name has some kind of connotation anyway...and who cares (unless it's Hitler or someone equally evil)...anyway- rant over :)

felizsun · 03/06/2017 00:31

Elsie?

SomeOtherFuckers · 03/06/2017 03:41

Try Alisa ... it's a Scottish name pronounced Elsa ... I know a couple in their 20s x well before the film came out. She won't be teased , she'll love that she has a princess with her name .

malin100 · 03/06/2017 09:41

Ailsa is pronounced "ai", not "eh" like fail vs fell

Lemondrop99 · 03/06/2017 10:40

Agree with Malin, Elsa and Alisa are pronounced differently.

DarkFloodRises · 03/06/2017 10:44

I think the Frozen connection will be forgotten by the time your DD is old enough to care.
