Estelle

Just wondering what opinions are on Estelle? We are after an uncommon but not unheard of girl's name, that's easy to spell. DH suggested Estelle the other day, and it's growing on me. I've never met an Estelle and my only reference points are Great Expectations and Joey from Friend's agent!
I'm not sure if it's so rare it falls into the unheard of category?

Other names on the short(ish) list are:
Iris
Cecilia
Harriet
Georgia
Celeste

Thanks!

It's a lovely name, but she will become one in a legion of Ellies.

chillipopcorn1 · 02/03/2017 15:39

I love it! Also like your other choices, we have similar tastes and my DD's name is in your list Grin what would Estelle be for short?

rainbowstardrops · 02/03/2017 15:45

I like it Smile

elvisola · 02/03/2017 15:48

I had a friend growing up called Estelle, I really like it. She never shortened it and we never had any nicknames for her, she was just Estelle.

purpleme12 · 02/03/2017 15:48

I mine it. I used to know someone called Estelle but only one person in my life. So while I don't think it's unheard of its definitely unusual which is a good thing

MrsGB2225 · 02/03/2017 15:54

I love Estelle & Cecilia!

agnes158 · 02/03/2017 16:07

I like it it's quite unusual. I knew an Estella growing up but have never come across anyone named Estelle. I also like Celeste and Iris

IHeartKingThistle · 02/03/2017 16:09

It's Estella in Great Expectations. I like them both. I don't see why it would be shortened to Ellie as it doesn't start with El!

BasicBetty · 02/03/2017 16:28

My friend has an Estelle and she's known as Ella...

Love Georgia and Iris from your list.

EsmesBees · 02/03/2017 16:28

Thanks all. Sounds like most people like it so far. I hadn't considered the nickname issue. I really don't like Ellie, but don't mind Elle, although that's very similar to my nickname. My other daughter's nickname is just the first letter of her name, and I never thought it would be when we named her, so maybe something would develop organically that wasn't Ellie?

You are quite right king thistle, it's been a while since I read it. Weirdly, I don't like it at all with the 'a' on the end.

Estelle is a lovely name - usually Stella for short.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/03/2017 18:58

No I don't like it. probably because there was one in my school. Who thought she was Gods gift

Wafflenose · 02/03/2017 19:11

It's the best!! Grin Pootle for short here.

disappearingfish · 02/03/2017 19:19

I love Estelle. The Estelles I know are fabulous people. I've met very few baby Estelles so it's lovely but not too common. Stella is also great I think.

I have a Georgia (nn Georgie) and she is also fabulous Grin

early30smum · 02/03/2017 19:30

I don't personally like it, but strangely love Stella. Of your other names, I love Georgia.

Pemba · 02/03/2017 19:37

Estella is lovely, as is Stella. For some reason I don't feel the same about Estelle.

badg3r · 02/03/2017 19:38

Nickname Telles too maybe? Love Celeste too and Henrietta that you could get Harriet out of at a push Wink

BikeRunSki · 02/03/2017 19:38

SuperBeagle · 02/03/2017 19:48

Crumbelina · 02/03/2017 19:52

AliciaMayEmory · 02/03/2017 19:57

Gorgeous name. 😊 Love the nn Stella too.

Lweji · 02/03/2017 19:59

For me it's Joey's agent in Friends. So, I wouldn't.

heateallthebuns · 02/03/2017 20:01

I like all of your choices!

SittinginaSleazySnackBar · 02/03/2017 20:05

whyistherenoavocadoemoji · 02/03/2017 20:18
